Interesting to read the responses. I never researched it much (surprisingly since I research everything!) I just started menopur and follistim last night.

@Jenn23: I used to know the reasoning and have completely forgotten it. But my first clinic wanted me on Bravelle + Menopur for both IUI and IVF and Dr. C wanted me on just Menopur for injectible cycles where the focus was on maturing and not so much stimming. If you're used to PIO the Menopur is nothing!

I did both menopur n bravelle, but just followed dh's try suggested, sorry can't help. They did reduce some as they kept monitoring me, I guess depending on how I responded. They were also worried about ohss at one point, so that's when I stopped altogether.

@Jenn23: You can handle it! It does burn but honestly, I got used to it. The first time I did the shot of Menopur I was a little disturbed because of the sensation but it passed quickly. I also found that sometimes when I did the shot it burned and sometimes I didn't feel it as much. Maybe it had to do with the spot I was injecting? Not sure!

Thanks, ladies! Interesting! I wonder if that is why none of my remaining eggs made it to freeze. That the quality wasn't as good as it could have been had I used menopur. But I wonder why my RE didn't have me take it. Just the Bravelle? I'm sure it had to do with my hormone levels because the decision was made after my Day 4 blood work. Well, I hope this protocol works for me. :) Thanks for the answers.

@FliegepilzHut: I've heard that one burns!!!! Ouch! My philosophy is if I can handle PIO's, I can handle anything! lol

Ditto what @Sunshine1810: and @Shutterbug: said-- it has some LH effect, which I think helps with egg maturation. (?) :goodluck: :goodluck: :goodluck:

ETA: Oh and definitely use some ice for the Menopur injection!!! :meh:

Did your AFC or FSH change? If I remember correctly, I think that my RE said that Gonal-F/Bravelle are FSH drugs, and Menopur is a combination FSH/LH.

When I used Gonal-F + Menopur I responded much better than on Gonal-F alone, in terms of estrogen levels correlating to the number of follicles that were seen on u/s. They also got 3 more eggs on that protocol.

Maybe there was something about your hormone levels that is making your dr want to stim you with LH as well (I don't know enough about the difference between the two to know why).

My understanding is that Menopur has LH and FSH where Bravelle/Gonal-F/Follitism are FSH only. I have read some things that indicate that Menopur can assist with egg quality as LH helps eggs to mature, where FSH helps get more eggs in general. The combination is supposed to help with overall quality I believe.

I have no idea. Maybe your IVF nurse can explain? I did 1 vial of bravelle and 2 of menopur each day. Or maybe it was 2 bravelle and 1 menopur. Either way I did both.

Not sure if anybody can help with this, but figure it is worth a try.

Last cycle I was to do Bravelle and Menopur, but my RE ended up stimming me with just the Bravelle. This cycle he wants me to do both. Does anybody know the difference? I just did research and didn't understand the difference between Menopur and the Bravelle/Gonal-F/Follistim. Curious is anybody who truly understands these meds can explain the difference in using Menopur or going without. Since my first cycle with just Bravelle worked, why would my RE switch it this time? Thanks!
