Before that, comfort was key! After that she became more interested in style. I wanna get a pair for L! :) my personal experience is that you'd want sturdier shoes that stay on the feet better for when they first start walking. I think sandals may be a little difficult during that stage. So perhaps they won't get a lot of wear since you'll want to be putting K in StrideRite type of shoes when she is walking? I don't mind saving good quality items like this and I know I'll still like the style. But if they're too uncomfortable, I don't want to waste almost $40 on them (even on sale, the SA called them "a splurge").
