I love hearing about the different cultures and traditions on here :) @Mrs.Someone: If we use a doctor they will be Jewish.... My rabbi named all the Jewish doctors that he's worked with. I think it's just easier because they understand our traditions and what the ceremony is about. Maybe you can find a local Jewish pediatrician or urologist that is willing to do a mitzvah? We have VERY similiar traditions. We opted to do a circumcision in the hospital (although we were able to find a Muslim doctor, not that it makes a difference but I guess it put my mind at ease). Then at 6w old, we had a naming ceremony and party. Rabbi said we have 3 options. 1. Get a mohel..... which isn't so easy around here. Rumor has it there's only one in town and he doesn't have a good reputation, so we'd have to fly someone in. 2. Get a doctor to do it and have rabbi there to do the verbal part of the ceremony. 3. Get a doctor to do it and just skip the bris and have a naming. We're probably going to go with option 2. It would be expensive to get a mohel, plus I really like our rabbi and know that he'd do a great job. If we fly in a mohel, I'd never have met him before. What was your bris like?
