@sunny: I ended up only wearing my band. One of the interviewers referred to my marriage/ hubby, which prompted c the other two to glance at my hand. Oh well foe trying to I keep things low key.

When I interviewed while engaged, I took my e-ring off. When interviewing married now, I only wear my band. Truth is, people do judge... If engaged, I don't want anyone assuming I'm going to be planning my wedding all day. Now still newly-ish wed, I don't want anyone assuming I'm going to have a kid right away and thus not be a reliable employee. It might vary by occupation but that's my experience.

I voted engagement ring off, wedding band on. In my field, being married wouldn't necessarily hurt me, but I know enough about gendered discrimination in the workplace that I wouldn't want to bring attention to myself.

I guess I'm the minority, but I would and do leave off my rings when I interview. Even though it's illegal for them to discriminate against you, you can't prove that's why you aren't offered the job, so why give them any reason to do so? Like it or not, there is an assumption that married women of a certain age are more likely to take a maternity leave, and given the choice between two similar candidates that could be the factor that sways the hiring manager. The only time I'd consider keeping on a wedding band only is if I were interviewing in a new geographic area due to a partner relocating - since it will probably come up that your spouse was relocated when you discuss why you are leaving your current job you're not going to give anything away by wearing it.

I voted leave them on.

But, in all honesty, if you have a really big ring, I'd probably leave it at home and just wear my wedding band. I don't have that problem, though ; )

@shopaholic: While it is okay in my office to wear a skirt/dress with bare legs, I have only done it a handful of times (and I live in Georgia), and I would *never* do it for an interview! My profession is more conservative than most, but pantyhose are part of business dress, and I would not wear anything less for an interview. It may seem silly or old fashioned, and although I would not base my hiring decision on whether the interviewee had bare legs or not, I would definitely notice, and would probably even jot it down in my notes.

I wear my rings on interviews. I am very conscious about apperances during interviews, I know we all say it shouldn't matter, but it does.

My rings are always on the smaller side compared to American standards, so it's not an issue of size or flashiness. If someone doesn't want to offer me a position based on my jewlery, that is their loss.

I voted "wear both" but generally I don't wear my engagement ring on a daily basis. I've never really thought about it before. Both places I've worked have been fairly family friendly, and the organization I work for now is really great about helping our mothers when they come back from maternity leave.

I think I would remove them. When I interviewed for my last job, I wasn't engaged and somehow I managed to get the job even though I thought it was way out of reach for someone with my experience... incidentally, I got engaged a few days afterwards so I showed up to work a month later with my ring and plans of a wedding. I still feel I got that job because I wasn't married or had children yet.

I'd say the opposite for a man though... when I meet men at work I always check for a wedding ring.. I think it implies stability to me, and that someone must like them enough to marry them, so they must be ok lol!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: to me, I know it's bad but, if I really wanted and needed the job, i'd do whatever it took to make sure I landed it. Yeah...even if I do take off my ring. But, first day on the job: the ring will be back! And i'll be damn if I'm not also knocked up 12 months into the gig, hehe. I mean, get the job by playing the game...and then once you're in, all you have to worry about is doing the job well, your personal life is no business of theirs.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I have heard more times than I can think of on people commenting on someone's car, ring, purse, shoes (I worked in the fashion industry) and everyone and anyone would make judge-y comments like "she doesn't even NEED to work/a job", etc. Awful, but you know even managers think like that!

ETA: That's why even the way you dress for the interview is important for non-verbal signals. Dress nice, but not nicer than the interviewer would potentially be. Leave the flashy, designer, etc. stuff at home. DH does a lot of interviews too and these things are always mentally checked. I even had one manager who had a personal thing about stockings and bare legs. She thought women should always wear pantyhose if legs were exposed and no open-toe shoes (and we live in SoCal!) No interviewee in their right mind would think that would be important, but to her it was...

@TurtleDoves: Yes, your assumption is correct! This *is* the company I want to (continue) work for. Perhaps in a different economy or industry or job function I could take my gender and my employer's personnel needs for granted, but I can't.

@betsyboop: That's what I have been leaning toward- band only. DH keeps saying just turn the e-ring around, but just my luck I will have some akward moment and stab or swipe someone with it.

@shopaholic: Speaking of taking mental notes DH advised me to wear a pantsuit instead of a skirt suit. Edited.

I wouldn't, just because I don't want them judging on the size or it or whatever. My wedding band isn't exactly stand-alone without the e-ring anyways so for me they would both have to come off.
I assume if I am applying, then I really want/need the job...once I get it, they can deal with my "baggage" hehe.
Luckily for me, in my field, we're all mostly women and it is a government/federal job so it's totally not a concern of mine!

I have had and heard these kinds of thoughts before. I would consider not wearing them if I were in certain fields. Even though sexual discrimination is illegal, little signs like the size of your ring, a ring in general, can easily be mentally checked and taken into account.

No, I had honestly not considered this. I started my first full-time job when I was engaged and had to take time off within the first month to get married+go on my honeymoon. I informed them the minute they offered me a job, and it was never a problem. If the place I was interviewing wouldn't hire me because I might potentially have children, I wouldn't want to work there anyways!

My industry is pretty dominated by young women so it really wasn't a concern at my current job (plus I wasn't married or engaged when I interviewed). I guess it would depend on the field and environment. I wouldn't want to mislead about being married but I could see leaving the e ring home to draw less attention.
