I was four months pregnant when I interviewed for my last job. It was a large Canadian retailer with iconic stripes. I was NOT upfront about it. I didn't tell anyone until I was through two months there, even though everyone at home and on FB already knew. It felt sketchy, but I needed to work, and work is hard to come by. My managers were very supportive in the end.

@swurlygurl: I did respond and I hope it was tactful but I was sure to mention "today", this was my response:

Thank you for taking the time and meeting with me today and considering me for this opportunity. I wish you luck in your search for the right candidate and would be interested in a future opportunity.

@LuLu Mom: Dang, that does totally suck! I would probably respond to that email, bringing the 'yesterday' to their attention. I can't think of a tactful way to do that though...
It's kind of rude, too. They should at least let you think that they thought about it for a day!

@cmomma17: I wasn't even job hunting, the owner posted something on FB so I just inquired abut it and it moved forward before I realized it. I think that's what makes it sting more, it was a fluke I even "applied."

@jetsa: The thing that bothered me most was it was an hour later and they said "yesterday" in the email, so I'm like okay did you send the email to the wrong person or did you not take the time to update the standard rejection for the girl who literally just walked out of your office. (Bitter McGee over here ha)

I'm sorry that's the worst. This would really bother me and I would definitely question what they meant by that comment when you have almost double the required experience.

So I have to share my embarrassment. I put myself out there for a job interview, knowing I was pregnant but I was up front about it because the owner is a family friend and would have known anyways. I went in and nailed the interview, I knew I did great and even called my husband and said it went good and that I would be a great match for the position. I got an email an hour later saying "thanks for the interview yesterday but they wanted someone with "more experience" (They wanted someone with at least 5 years, I have almost 9.)

I want to think it's because I'm pregnant and they don't want to deal with someone going on maternity leave, but who knows I'm just mortified that I was rejected so quickly and they said yesterday instead of today, like they didn't even remember me. Knife in gut for sure. I think the more experience is a joke, I wish they would have just said "we are going in a different direction" or waited a day before rejecting me, not as soon as I walked out the door. That's my vent of the day. Maybe I was overconfident in they way the interview went but still it hurts.
