Where I live based on home construction the job market is booming. Certain aspects of my industry are growing. In the past year, at least half a dozen people I know from my small part of the organization have found new jobs. For us that's big turnover.

I'm in manufacturing/oil and gas in Houston and the job market sucks. I was laid off in April and haven't found a job yet.

It's been pretty good for me. My last company just moved to Texas (which confirms what @wheres_c said) but everyone has found better stuff.

Tech in Texas is a hot market these days. Lots of good opportunities!

Here in the northeast and in the tech field there's a ton of demand. There's just not enough qualified people for the amount of hiring. I get recruited constantly on LinkedIn.

In both my field and my husbands field, the job prospects are significantly better now than in 2008. Well, I'm really talking number of jobs and work environment. Pay and benefits have suffered and everyone seems afraid to push for better.

I'd say it's pretty good here in the Northeast. At least for my field, and just general awareness of friends opportunities. Def better than 2008!!!

Omg the job market in my field is horrendous. I'll be going on the market starting in August in preparation for finishing my phd next year and I'm not looking forward to it. I'm in academia though and I think it's a problem w higher education specifically (fewer tenure track positions available as the market moves to contingent labor instead), not necessarily the broader job market

@pinkcupcake: I shouldn't respond because my husband and you work in very different fields. But he has had very little luck finding jobs. I bet it won't be too hard for you to get back out there. Good luck! Congrats on getting back into the job market again!

Slowly starting to look for a job after staying home w/the kiddos for a few years. The last time I looked for a job was in 2008 (height of the recession!) and it was a pretty miserable experience. I'm hoping it'll be better this time.

If anyone else is looking for a job right now - how's your experience been? How's the market looking in your area?
