@pinkcupcake: Sure thing! I worked in the nonprofit sector for 5 years before taking my current position, and we would have LOVED help from someone like you. Have fun! :)

@mfa_lady: @kiddosc: thank you for your thoughts. I don't know why volunteering never crossed my mind! You're right, my biggest concern at this point is having something to write down on my resume - just so that I don't have a huge 4 year gap when I do look for a job post - baby and when our location is secure. Volunteering is a great idea and good way to stay relevant; I think I'll look into organizations and see if anyone needs help :) Thanks so much again!

I don't know that I would look for a job at this point unless you need the income. It seems like it would look better to have an extended absence from the workforce (I took a few years off to have children), than it would to have a short-term position on your resume (I went back to work, but had another child and then moved because of my husband). I think having the short term position has the potential to make it look like you didn't think things through and might not be a good job candidate. If you're just looking to get out of the house and can arrange child-care, I think volunteering might be a better option and help on a future resume.

If you can afford to keep staying at home but are interested in non-profit work, would volunteering be an option? With your expertise, it sounds like you could really make a difference for a local organization in just a few hours a week. You have a lot going on and there are a lot of variables, so that could be a way to get back in the game and stay busy without having to worry about the hiring/leave process.

Just curious what others would do in this situation ...

I'm currently a SAHM (was a lawyer before I quit 3.5 years ago, and would prefer to never go back to law again). Expecting baby 2 in late June / early July. I've been thinking about going back to work before I found out I was pregnant, but being pregnant is adding a whole new wrinkle to this.

ideally, i would like to work part time / flex hours (not in legal, but maybe doing non profit policy work or writing?) but those jobs seem rare here. It seems like it's pretty much all or nothing (full time or nothing)

Is it even worth my while to look for a job right now, knowing in 6 months I'll be out on leave? Will anyone even be open to hiring someone who will look very visibly pregnant soon? I mean, I know legally they can't say no based on that but I'm sure it still plays a big part in whether they decide to hire you or not.

Adding to the problem - my husband is finishing up his specialty training in May/June and there's a good chance we will have to move if he doesn't get an offer in our area. So there's a 50/50 chance we won't even be living in this area past July...

What would you do if you were me? My head is hurting from all the options :T
