Oh yes, a good pen made all the difference! My pens of choice were the micron pens.

I tried this (for the same reason) - I just had a file on my laptop and would write on my lunch break at work usually. But I am prone to obsessive rumination and I found it actually made me worse. If I ever try it again, I would need to restrict myself to only positive things, things I'm thankful for etc.

I journaled a ton in my early to mid twenties, but have gotten out of the habit the past couple of years. I still journal on occasion, but nowhere close to the daily journaling I did for years.

I use a simple, pretty journal, and a pen. A good pen makes journaling more enjoyable for me. I love classic felt tip pens.

No prompts, but I do find that I journal more when I also use my journal to write to do lists. If I'm looking at it to check my to do list or grocery list, it's easy to jot down a quick entry.

I used to journal a lot pre-kids... just a simple, pretty journal that wasn't too heavy or big so I could carry it with me easily if I wanted to. I loved going to coffee shops and just journaling, or ending the night writing in my journal. It was a good way to let it all out. I just tried to be as honest and real as possible, and wrote whatever came to mind or whatever I might be feeling at that moment. Sometimes I'd come across quotes that really "spoke" to me and I'd jot those down too.

This is one of my journals - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1593596383?keywords=journals&qid=1454300701&ref_=sr_1_12&sr=8-12

I love moleskin too.

I tried a notebook and pen, but didn't stick with it, same with on the computer. I'm working now on doing it on my phone, since it's always with me and I spend a lot of time playing with it when the baby is sleeping on me (like now). So far it's going well. I'm also able to easily transfer any of it to my blog if I decide it's something worth sharing.

I love journaling but haven't had a whole lot of time to do so lately :-(

For myself, I just use a pen and blank journal with a pretty cover and pretty pages, no prompts or anything. I try to write in it when I can, but honestly, it is oftentimes months in between entries. When I do write, I fluctuate between trying to catch up with what's happened since the last entry, and just jumping right in with whatever is going on at the moment. I try to keep it no pressure so I don't feel compelled to fill in missing periods, especially as I find writing therapeutic and don't want to make it a chore.

For my girls, I have a separate journal for each of them - just a blank lined A5 size notebook and coloured gel pens. For DD1, she got an entry a day - just one page, talking about what we did that day or the little things she does that amaze me. DD2 was meant to be the same but I have completely fallen off the wagon for her and she only has a few entries, compared to DD1 having an entry every single day, without fail, from the time she was 8 weeks old, until just before DD2 was born 19 months later. Yikes....poor DD2 :-/

I'm curious if anyone here journals, and if you do, how do you go about it? Just simple pen and paper? A guided journal with prompts? In your phone?

It was suggested to me to do a thought journal (anxiety related) but I don't want to overthink it, so it doesn't become a chore that I won't follow through with. Any tips on getting started?
