My induction was scheduled at 39 weeks due to GD... I was ready (and my doctor was willing!) to induce at 38 weeks with how dilated and uncomfortable I was... Most people weren't judgy, or I didn't care enough to see the judginess..?? Haha. People are stupid. If someone was judgy towards me I'd just say my doctor recommends it due to my medical history and I love and trust my doctor 100%.

i agree with others that to make it easy u can say your due is your induction date, but you can also choose to say you are getting induced and if questioned why, you can always go with "why do you need/want to know?" or "doctor's recommendation!" and leave it at that.

@sorrycharlie: Um I would totally get induced if I were you, the risk is too high for a home/roadside delivery with how fast you go! I wouldn't' lie, just start saying "due date is XYZ" (your new inducement day) because technically it is when you are planning on being due! Just say "they bumped it up" if they ask, which is also true. I already give people my scheduled date instead of "real" DD, however in my mind it is when I'm due!

I had a scheduled c-section at 37 weeks for medical reasons, but didn't want to get into those reasons with people or have to deal with judginess about the c-section, so I just told people my "due date" was the day the c-section was schedule for.

I was induced at 42 weeks and ended up needing an emergency C-section. People told me endlessly that I was terrible for inducing, my response to them...IDGAF. I hope to try for my second next year and am planning an RCS, I'm sure the judgment police will come calling again. I have my fresh round of IDGAFs waiting for them.

I had a lot of judgement too! I scheduled my induction for 40+6 and still got a lot of grief from people. (41+6 according to my personal due date!)
I even only induced because I wanted the option of sending her to kindergarten if I felt she needed it, instead of missing the cutoff by like one day. So there weren't any medical risks, but good grief, I was past due people!

People are stupid.

If I were you, I would also get induced early! My co-worker had her baby in her bathtub because she went into labour and the paramedics couldn't even get to their house in time to deliver. The 911 operator had to instruct her husband over the phone on how to deliver the baby. Talk about fast.

@LemonLong: What a shitty thing for the nurse to do! My cousin's wife is the head of an OB department, which is somewhat terrifying considering how condescending she is about inductions and c-sections. Like, last week right after she found out I was having another c-section, she posted a FB thing about how she had just ordered a bunch of balance and peanut balls for their hospital and added something snarky about 'saving babies from c-sections.' Gee, I wasn't aware that a balance ball could have fixed my baby's heart rate (although I had used one!) or that my baby needed to be saved from the c-section that saved his life. Major eye roll followed by hiding her on FB.

I have gotten superior looks from people who went into labor naturally, but most of them had babies 2-3 lbs lighter than mine so really, how dare you judge! (Thankfully no one has said anything directly) In your instance it sounds completely justified and way more safe than the alternative. Besides, inductions suck- it's not like you're choosing it for fun!

Ugh! Just tell them your doctor ordered the induction because of your history. You were charting and I have confidence that you will have a very smooth induction at 39 weeks which is a nice healthy well cooked baby. You may end up having a longer labor this time because of the induction but without it who knows.

With my girls I was induced at 38 weeks and 37 weeks. The only judging I got was from a nurse at my insurance company who sent me a bunch of pamphlets about why induction was bad when I told her I was scheduled for one due to IUGR (my first also had IUGR). The weird thing was she knew the date of my induction and the pamphlets came like 2 weeks after, so she would have known I'd get them after so not sure what the point of her sending them were unless it was just to try to make me feel bad.

I am being induced this time around due to baby having a birth defect and I have just avoided talking about it unless the person is aware of the defect already, but that is more because I don't want to explain the defect to everyone than because I am worried about what people will say about the induction. I say you have a perfectly sound reason behind your induction, so people who question it can just shove it!

Ugh, stuff like this makes me crazy. I will never understand why people care so much about a decision that is between a woman and her doctor. Hits a nerve because a friend (who just announced she is pregnant with her first) posted something on Facebook today that scheduled inductions and c-sections before 40 weeks should be illegal. Yes, for real.

Ok, stepping off soap box... I would probably just give people your due date and leave it at that. (Or use your induction date as your due date.) Just to avoid the whole thing.

Induction wasn't an option for me, I had to have a scheduled c-section...which I also constantly had people asking me about and making me feel like I needed to justify it! At some point I started wishing I had just lied about it, but doing so didn't sit right with me - it just would have made things more complicated later on with my family.

Maybe it's bitchy, but I finally posted on FB "X days until we meet our new little one! Yes, I know the date; some complications have arose and a c-section has been scheduled to make sure baby arrives safely. Long story that I'm sick of telling, but we'll let everyone know once he's here!" Most people won't have the nerve to press for details when you straight up say you're sick of talking about it.
