@Silva: @MoonMoon: @stargal: @luckypenny: So are the smoothies basically just blended drinks with nothing strained? Or do you add milk or yogurt? Obviously, I'm not a smoothie or juice person. lol.

@Kimberlybee: Yes! Eww! My friend was telling me about those.

@mrsjyw: The waste is why I haven't juiced for myself either. I've seen friends put in bags worth of veggies and fruits just to get a few glasses it seems! But, I do think they seem healthier for LO than packaged fruit juices.

@Mrs. High Heels: @petunia354: Thanks! I will check those out!

We have a Breville juicer which is amazing. I juiced every single day on bed rest (oops, totally wasn't in bed for that...) and maternity leave. It never ocurred to me to do it for DS though! I'd totally recommend the Breville, it's a PITA to clean but you can throw it in the dishwasher!

I personally love homemade juice. The only potential problem I could see with juicing is that the kids would get all the sugar but none of the fiber of the fruit or veggies, and wouldn't learn to know/like the taste & texture of them in their whole form.

That being said, I still remember how much I loved the apple/carrot juice my mom would make for us as kids, so I'll definitely treat my son to some when he's older!

@shopaholic: yup, we have an omega juicer and DD helps me juice… she loooves drinking her creation - we add tons of kale and spinach, but the taste is hidden by the citrusy notes of lemon and orange… and cucumber helps too.

We make her juice and smoothies - depending on the day.

I don't like carrots in my smoothies so I juice them. Yesterday we split a carrot, apple, ginger. She also loves kale, cucumber, lemon and pineapple juice.

For smoothies our fave is almond milk, scoop of peanut butter, kale, 1 banana, 1/2 cup mango, flax & chia seeds.

We tried juicing way back in our dating days with a Jack LaLane juicer that dh had... was good, but SOOOOO much fruit/veggies were needed and I also felt like there was so much useable "waste" after the juice too--

Kinda tempted to look into it agian, esp for DS-- but not sure if it's worth the $$ or hassle. I may just not let him drink any processed juice ever. And stick to milks and water!

I have a nice juicer that I used for only a few months that is not being used. I will probably do it for LO when she is older. I have been reading about molded caprisan drinks and it's scary.

I don't plan on doing much juice at all. We have had to give my daughter a little prune juice lately to help with constipation, but I prefer giving her pureed prunes (its just easier to get more in her with juice). You lose the benefits of fiber when you juice- I'll definitely make smoothies for my daughter though!

I haven't in a few months but the first time I did was probably a little before a year? I primarily did orange juice to help with iron absorption.

I was at the Farmer's Market today when another mom stopped to ask me if I "juice" for LO. Then she noticed K was kind of young (her's was 1.5 y/o), but told me I should consider juicing for her when she is older - more nutrients and vitamins. Things like kale, spinach, beets, etc. I was asking the vendor about the tops of the beets and she was telling me to juice them.

Interesting - I had never thought about "juicing", but I didn't like the idea of giving LO boxed juices. If you make juices for your LO, when did you start? Pros, cons? And what kind of juicer do you have and what do you make?
