My DH does this he will say "he doesn't' have time to make lunch" in the mornings, well then make a sandwich before you go to bed. I get annoyed that although we aren't in the same situation, he spends way more on fast food than I like. I did pull out one month of our bank account and showed how much he spent, he had no idea. I do make sure to buy his favorite snacks and he takes those, but it's annoying. I maybe eat out for lunch 1-2 times a month with a coworker, not 2-3 times a week like he does! It does make a huge difference.

His issue is he hates leftovers, and I don't care I'll eat just about anything, so he's stuck with a sandwich every day while I have variety. I can't help he's picky and won't give most leftovers a chance.

Can you pack him some snacks?

DH is this way - blows my mind on how much he spends on food - but if he has protein bars in the car that will usually tide him over until he gets home

I do the same thing as @AmandaB8: we have a joint account that all our money goes into and all our bills get paid out of. Attached to that account we have our seperate spending accounts each week money gets moved into that account and we can spend it as we wish - no questions asked.

DH has the same issue. Our solution was to actually open a separate account for DH - $20 gets transferred in there each week. He can only spend that cash. It sucks, but at least I can budget for it.

I think I'd be more mad that he already ate if I was making dinner!
But either way - he needs a budget! My DH and I each get a set (same) amount to spend as we please. Might not work for you, but you need some sort of agreement about what is acceptable to spend.

Maybe it is disrespectful of him too, if you are putting in the effort of cooking and he already blew money on food when he arrives home. Maybe pack him up the leftovers!

@Mrs. Sunshine: Oh, it makes total sense. I haven't really bought anything for myself in a long, long time. And it turns me into a massive ball of stress when he comes home with random stuff. It got way better when we started tracking it, though. It is hard to ignore when it is laid in black and white. Numbers don't lie.

@Espion: I probably don't realize my spending issues either but mine are usually like a $5 item when I'm buying groceries or something, which is totally bad but it doesn't just blatantly stare me in the face like his gas station snack trips (even though I bought him snacks) and his eating out does if that makes sense

@MrsRcCar: @Anagram: @Raindrop: thanks ladies. Maybe I need to show him the real concrete numbers. It's an issue every month but this month I really thought he would stop an he didn't. Not even the dollar menu. Over $20 in 3 days on dinner for just him! That's insane to me and he just gives me a blank stare when I say something. I have dinner ready and waiting for him every night. Getting home at 730 isn't THAT late, I know he's not that crazy hungry.

Oh yes, I totally understand. DH and I didn't realize how much we were nickel and dime-ing ourselves until I started keeping track of everything in our budget. It was a real eye opener.

*big hugs*

If you have time you should sit down and draw up a budget.

For right now you should keep track of the spending and show it to him when you talk about the budget. Like this is how much we spent on fast food last month... maybe this month we can set the budget to be 80% of that (and then the next month set it be 80% of that number and so on till it's a number you are comfortable with).

Budgeting is hard! It takes time... and it is a big learning curve so don't give up on it. It will help you in the long run. :)

@Mrs. Sunshine: You have every right to be annoyed, if you don't even have money to buy Christmas gifts, and he's spending money that you can't afford to spend. I don't think it's a fast food issue, it's a budget issue--and he doesn't seem to get that.

I can understand that. Dh has the same problem a lot of the time. I got him to stop by completely drawing out the budget with money that we have collectively. Once it was all drawn out he better understood why I stressed about money. Big hugs momma.

I've been solo parenting all week. (I know it's only Wednesday but I'm not used to it!) I'm pregnant and more exhausted than I've ever been in my life, LO is sick and I STILL have a few more Christmas gifts to buy. I have asked and asked and asked DH to stop buying freaking fast food all the damn time. He uses more than half of what money doesn't go to bills and life on buying food despite our already outrageous grocery bill. I begged him to at least give me this entire month so I can buy gifts for his family and stuff and he won't stop spending. He bought fast food every night this week because he's worked late (by late I mean till 630 or 7 ) and is hungry but there is good waiting for him here. I've been hungry before and waiting sucks but he hasn't even tried. He bought a $10 (!!!!!) meal for himself today. Ten freaking dollars!! I'm so annoyed that I'm crying.

I just had to let that out before I went and crazy woman screamed at him when he got home. Thanks for lending me your ear.
