@ladyfingers: maybe you could also try white noise, which could dull the sound of the alarm lady.

@Bluebonnet: Thanks, I'll look into that! I feel like we looked before and it wasn't possible, but maybe I'm wrong.

We have an alarm keypad in our bedroom, but there is an option to turn the chime off when the door opens and closes. (We turned that off when LO arrived). When our alarm is set, if someone breaks in or a door is opened, the alarm will still sound., but it doesn't beep every time a door is opened.

Try reading your alarm manual or calling your alarm company to see if you can disable that feature.

@oahujeni: Also haha uh, yeah I'm fairly loud. Especially lately. You know, with all the hormones.

My parents have this type of alarm. Any time a door opens it goes beepbeepbeepbeep. We have a K9 alarm, any time the front door opens they go ballastic. LO now easily sleeps through those noises without waking. When they are brand newborns, they sleep through everything, as they get older they just become accustomed to it.

@Mrs. Blue: Can you do this on yours? Do you have ADT? That's who ours is through. Maybe I just haven't figured out how...

@oahujeni: Yeah true, if we just expose him to it from the beginning I figure it won't be as much of an issue.

@Andrea: Hopefully that will be the case!

@oahujeni: I guess we could, but honestly, especially when it's just me and him at home, I'd rather not muffle it too much.

@Mrs. Blue: Unfortunately, no -- it's a security measure. :(

Sawyer can sleep through the doorbell, dog barking, pretty much anything, so it might not be an issue ... a white noise machine near LO will help tons as well.

I know exactly what you're talking about and it drove me nuts even without a baby! Is there not anyway to change it where it at least won't go off when you're just opening and closing the door and the alarm isn't set?

Oh and can you put anything over the speaker where her voice comes out of to muffle it at all?

Hopefully you will get lucky and the noise won't bother LO. Our doorbell could ring several times, the dogs can howl at the top of their lungs and nothing will wake our LO. I think because life was so noisy in the womb that he is used to it.so start getting loud now.

I'm still not sure what we'll do -- have LO sleep in his crib right away, or in our room in a Rock or Pack n Play. The nursery is right across from our bedroom and we have a monitor but I don't know how I'll feel most comfortable so I'm planning to wing it.

BUT.

I just realized last night that there is a a potentially huge barrier to sound LO sleep in our bedroom -- our house alarm! DH had them install it in our bedroom because he felt safer that way so that if somebody breaks in we can hear it, etc. (which totally makes sense but grr, because she can be really loud). Every time you open the back door to let the dog out, the front door to come home, etc. she goes, "[xx] door, open" and if the alarm is set, beeps until you turn it off (or until it accidentally goes off). She talks even if the alarm ISN'T set, as a precaution so that even if we haven't set the alarm, we'll know if somebody comes in.

So if we let the dog out, or if DH is working a late night and I have to set the alarm and he comes home, there's a potential that alarm lady and beeping will wake the baby.

I know this is a specific issue, but has anybody else experienced this? Is it no big deal? Any ideas, even if you haven't experienced this? As a safety measure, you can't lower the volume, so that's out.

The only other thing I could thing of is a white noise machine next to LO to maybe drown things out?
