Haha. Just wanted to write a quick update since it's a quiet day at work today. The weekend was a pretty horrific one-- Wagon Jr. was just not himself and threw many many tantrums. He was so whiny and horrible the entire time. We kind of spoiled him a little because he's sick and he's obviously in the middle of his terrible twos, so we had many time outs, including the very first one where Mommy didn't hold him and put him into a corner. He immediately got up and threw himself against my legs, wailing and wanting to be picked up, and I gave in right away. Sigh. But I can honestly say that it was ALL because he was sick and in pain. Today is day 4 of amoxicillin and every day has gotten better and better. </p> <p>The nights have been the worst... screaming awakenings every 2-3 hours consistently. But each night has gotten better, and last night he did not cry ONCE. Not even when he woke up in the morning. The poor thing has had a double eyelid in one eye (it happens to Wagon Sr. when he's super tired) so we know he's gotten very poor quality sleep since he couldn't breathe through his nose and his head probably hurt so much from the ear infection. So his sleep last night was probably awesome. The fact that he didn't cry even once made us so happy.</p> <p>Getting him to take his amoxicillin... oh my. We have to hold him down, pinch his nose, and pinch his cheeks to open his mouth and he basically coughs and screams the entire dose down. Every dose has gotten easier but he still cries through the whole thing. Now though as soon as it's done he's happy. It's still heartbreaking to do it though. We tried EVERYTHING-- mixing it with stuff, bribing him with popsicles and lollipops, out of a syringe, out of a spoon, out of a cup... nothing worked. Finally when we were speaking with a nurse practicitioner about getting a flavored bottle she explained that the easiest way is to just hold em down and force them to take it, and with each dose they get tired of fighting and eventually will just take it. Once we heard that from her, we felt a little better about the forceful feeding of it and it's been much better. It does take two of us though and gets very messy. Sometimes he coughs in the middle and we get covered in droplets of pink amoxicillin. </p> <p>He's such a trooper though. I hope the heat wave lets up and you can at least deal with the other things in normal temps!! Little Wagon will be better soon and hopefully back to his happy self. Last night we installed a bunch of light-blocking (but not blackout) curtains on all the windows upstairs and I'm hoping it will help keep the house cool. We also have a ceiling fan in our bedroom which we've never used (korean fan death!) but I dusted it and wiped it down last night and used it, and it was GREAT at cooling the room all night and morning. I didn't even sweat as I put on my makeup. I'm like a zombie because Wagon Jr. has been waking up every 2-3 hours at night (and taking horrible naps during the day) because he's sick. It's a critical week for me at work so I can't miss much, and the stressful situation here is not making it any better. Wagon Sr. and I have been juggling going in late and coming home early to cover childcare, and whoever is with Wagon Jr. gets really stressed because he's so whiny and irritable. </p> <p>Wagon Sr. just called after he brought him into the pediatrician's and reports that he has a "giant" ear infection in his right ear. Sigh. Well at least we know what's wrong.</p> <p>He'll be missing his last 3 days of school, which included an ice cream social and pizza party. Poor little guy.</p> <p>Not to mention today is day 2 of a 3 day heat wave here in Boston... reached 100 degrees today. We have central a/c, but the units for our house are just not powerful enough and it ends up being pretty hot on the top floor, where our bedrooms are. I'm naturally a very warm person (and sweaty!) and being 35 weeks pregnant is not helping.</p> <p>Oh also baby is head down and has dropped very low, and I'm in so much pain. I'm now one of those waddling pregnant women.</p> <p>I'm so exhausted... just had to vent a little... it's been a rough week at the Wagon House. </p>
