I have alsheard great things about diet adjustments helping with symptoms. Obviously your doctor is the first place to go, but I've heard good things about pairing traditional treatment with anti-inflammatory diet chchang so

Arthritis is autoimmune, so diet changes should be able to help. I'd suggest seeing a naturopath too if you're up for it.

I have a family member with JA, wasn't outgrown so still medicated as an adult. I would say it has generally been well managed (monitoring, adjusting medications, some extra appointments during flare-ups). At an older age meeting with a nutritionist also helped with managing symptoms via diet.

I'm sorry your little one is going through this. My niece was diagnosed this past year with JA. She has to have three injections every Friday and one on Tuesday -- all done by my sister, her mom. Hers is affecting her hips and also a few other joints. One of the medicines she is on is actually used for chemo patients too so the side affects cause her to be weak and nauseous. She's on Enbrel too. She just got approved to attend a JA camp this summer since she often feels she's alone in this so we think it will help to be surrounded by other kids who are experiencing the same thing in a way. She's the only kid that we know that has to have multiple injections a week so she doesn't understand that there are others out there. My niece just turned 8 :)

@sashaskog: no experience, but hopefully someone else can chime in. there are a number of mamas on the boards who have LOs with chronic issues. we might not be dealing with the same things, but I have found it helpful to connect with them. glad to hear that your lo's Doctor is optimistic. But I know it's hard to stay positive all the time as a mama facing unknowns like that. Big hugs!

My dad has this and is on disability for it. I worry about the genetic factors affecting my children. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. His did not appear until he was 14/15.

My 2.5 year old daughter was just diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. At this point it is only affecting 3 joints: her knee, ankle and wrist and all on the right side. We have started naproxen and are will be doing injections in two of the affecting joints (the wrist isn't too bad at this time). At this point it's just a waiting game to see how she responds to the injections and whether or the arthritis will continue to flare up. She doesn't appear to be in pain, but has a significant limp due to the knee. I'm trying to be optimistic, but the unknown is hard. Her doctor is optimistic though, which helps.

Does anyone else have experience with juvenile arthritis?
