@T.H.O.U.: good point, I'll look into safety equipment!

@dagret: I think maybe it's possible with Bluetooth? Haven't fully researched it yet though!

I'm not sure what laws are over there but obviously a kayaks is considered a boat/vessel. So you have to have a whistle and other safety gear on board.

If I lived where you're moving I would go kayaking or stand up paddleboarding every day of my life. Such a great workout, so much fun!

@mrbee: my husband kayaks (streams/rivers) and there's no way that I know of to waterproof an iphone with headphones - water can get into the port. You can just put your iphone on speaker in a dry bag, though. That's what my husband usually does.

@Synchronicity: Ah interesting, thanks! I'll be kayaking on the ocean so am a little nervous about getting tired while far from shore, especially if it's windy... I'll make sure to ease into it, thanks!

@mrbee: I was never really out for that long. On calm days I could go out for an hour and not get tired, but on windy days I would do half that and be wiped. Totally depended on the weather! I never really pushed for longer than an hour or so, that was enough for me.

@Synchronicity: Ah nice! Did you have to build up to extended kayaking runs, or did you pick it up pretty quickly? I ask because I kayaked a bit this summer and got wiped out pretty quickly!

My parents bought kayaks for the cottage this summer, and I became obsessed. I liked going out by myself on the lake (I like to go go go pretty quickly, my family members mostly liked to drift slowly along, lol), especially early in the morning. So peaceful, but also a great upper body and core workout.

Has anyone tried this as a hobby? I am thinking about picking it up as a morning workout... especially if I can find a way to waterproof my phone/headphones.
