There's only a handful of adoption agencies available here and I've noticed that most require both parents to have Swedish citizenship (not the adoption agency themselves but the prospective country's requirement). </p> <p>From my understanding, there are no Swedish orphanages. Children in need go into foster homes and the responsibility to find them homes falls into the municipality. We had been interested in Mongolia for awhile, but they only process 1-2 international adoptions a year and only under exceptional circumstances. It's really hard because those countries who do a ton of adoptions tend to have some less than savory practices and those that do few don't have a robust system to facilitate adoptions. We just want to give the children a home. I found out that the children from Kazakhstan have completed adoption :happy: But they will be the only ones since no other agency offers adoption from that country (where we're at). I was really interested in Kazakhstan, specifically, because of the number of Eurasian children that need homes. DD is mixed European/Asian. Kazakhstan doesn't seem to be such a popular choice, but it's good to know that there has been adoptions.The blogs I've found online are all pretty dated. </p> <p>The adoption agencies have different estimates on the required travel time (some say you must travel three times, some say twice with 60 days to 2 weeks during the first time). I believe the only time they traveled was to meet him and bring him home.
