@mrbee: Child Health Plus?

That's what my niece and nephew are on too!

@yoursilverlining: good point. I've never heard that in my area.

@Mrs. Twine: Knock on wood, now, yes. That's why when I just started my new job I definitely did not want her off because we were still going to the doc often. Almost every 2 weeks to test her iron levels.

I would say put her on your plan assuming she is in good health. Ellie requires many more medical visits than the average kid, so if it was Ellie I'd keep her on the state plan, but Lorelei I would switch.

Do doctors in your area only take a certain percentage of their client base as the state-funded program? (I’ve heard many complaints in our state that doctors will only accept a certain % of state-funded patients because the state doesn’t reimburse as well as private insurance, so if you are on state insurance it can be harder to find a provider). If that’s the case, it would feel IMO like I was taking up the “spot” for someone who might really need it when I didn’t.

@locavore_mama: Just called our pediatrician's office and they said that they don't accept it because "the building is not credentialed." Dunno what that means, but I guess they don't accept it?

Darn just called another pediatrician we were considering, and they don't accept it either...

@mrbee: It's AMAZING!!! I didn't have to pay for anything minus the monthly premium. It gets cheaper with more kids. It is very widely accepted. The only difficulty I have is finding dentist because I was hoping to go with a homeopathic/holistic dentist.

The ACA mandates that all preventive care is covered at 100%, so the free plan should cover all well visits and if you put the $60 in an HSA you will most likely be able to more than cover all the copays for any sick visits. I would definitely switch.

LO is currently on a NY State funded health insurance plan that is pretty awesome. We started off paying $30/month then it was raised to $60/month. Since it's income based I think it might be raised again next year because DH got a new job and his paycheck was raised a decent amount.

I get FREE health insurance at work. It's a family plan and both DH & I are already on it.

I was reluctant for LO to leave the state plan because it is such a good plan. But all her iron issues are ironed out now. And she is 18months so from here on out office visits will only be every 6 months to a year right?

So it seems to silly to keep paying out $60/month for nothing? It seems a better idea to take that $60 and put it into a HSA account?

My free plan includes free dental too and obviously preventative care is covered.

What would you do?
