I would also agree with charting. That way if you have a long cycle again, you'll have more info to present to your doctor if you end up wanting to request hormone testing. I ended up with pretty long cycles when I went off the pill and after a few months, was able to pinpoint PCOS and low progesterone.

If that ends up happening to you and your OB suggests day 21 testing, see if you can get O+7 day testing instead (it's more accurate with long cycles, and if you chart, you should be able to figure out what day you ovulate)

@kiddosc: I'm starting to lean towards charting. It's kind of intimidating to do, but I guess it's better to know what's going on with my body than go crazy over what's NOT going on. Thanks for the advice. Off to Amazon to find a BBT thermometer!

At this point, I would induce a period and start fresh.

If you have long cycles, I would really encourage you to chart using your basal body temperature (bbt). Charting will let you know definitively if you've ovulated. Many people with long cycles have PCOS, and even ovulation tests aren't accurate since PCOS can prevent your body from ovulating even though your LH has surged. Charting is the only real way to know if and more importantly WHEN you've ovulated.

Thank you all for the responses!

I asked for the blood test and my OB said not needed :meh: I'll ask her if Prometrium is an option vs Provera. When I brought up abstaining to the hubby, he went  (ha!).

I'm crossing my fingers this is just an unusual and long cycle and that I may have hopefully ovulated late. I'm doing lots of hoping here!

Thank you for your advice and similar experiences you shared. Sometimes I feel like I don't know who to talk to about this stuff, even with hubby.

Really very much appreciated!

Prometrium is safe during pregnancy (it's often prescribed to help support it), so if you can get it instead of provera, you wouldn't have had to abstain or take a pregnancy test before taking it.

Ask for a blood pregnancy test before you take it, and my doctor required that we hadn't had sex 10 days prior to taking the provera. My cycles are long and irregular as I have PCOS. I did ovulate at CD 17 the cycle after provera.

If you decide to induce a period, I would ask your OB if you can get prometrium instead of provera. Prometrium is bioidentical (it's made from plants) and Provera is synthetic. Prometrium is more like what your body naturally produces.

I have longer cycles and just used the digital opks to pinpoint ovulation. DD was conceived on day 32 or 33 of my cycle ( longest cycle I ever had) and DS was better on day 25ish. I would wait! Good luck!!

I'd wait 2-3 weeks. I had a 51 day cycle (the cycle I conceived my son)

I was in the same spot. I tried provera, and it didn't help but the side effects sucked. Ultimately I switched to a low carb diet and increased my exercise and that triggered ovulation. Sounds nuts, but it worked. Twice.

I need some words of advice from you fellow bees!

I recently went off the pill on 9/19/16 as we decided to have our first baby. I have a history of irregular and long cycles.

I then had a period from 9/23 - 9/26. I started using OPK and it showed an LH surge around 10/1. So we did the business and went on with the TWW (nobody told me this was gonna be the longest two weeks of my life). AF showed up on 10/27-10/30. That was a 35 day cycle.

And that's the last I've seen of AF. I am currently on CD51. I know cycles can take time to become regular again, but seeing as I was never regular to begin with, I'm thinking this is going to be an interestingly long and mysterious journey.

Anyway, I didn't use OPKs this cycle and I've had BFN every week. My OB has offered to prescribe me Provera to induce a period. I told her I'll wait another week.

What do you all think? How long should I hold out for AF/BFP? Should I just do the Provera? I'm torn.

Does anyone have a similar experience? :meh:
