That is our no fail way to keep him busy at 1 year. I would hang out outside until after the graduates walk in so that is less time to be still. He loves our phones especially toddler lock on the android. We bring books and toys if there is a place to play. He likes to empty out the diaper bag. The nice thing about graduations is that there are often lots of kids and movement. So you can go for "walks" while waiting for you loved one to go up. If so, videos on a DVD player or ipod touch is what I'd use. Also, dollar section toys all wrapped up... new toys are always key... we found these rubber sports ball erasers at Target and they have kept him busy for an hour at a time on more than one occasion!
