Ugh, I hate summer too! I used to wet an A& A blanket and drape it over him. I also agree with a spray bottle and a fan, also splash time in the tub it's always fun. I spent a lot of time at shopping centers just to get out of the house. I would also get up really early to go to the zoo and catch up on sleep in the afternoon.

Wow that's brutal with no AC. I've spent a great deal of time in hot climates with DS, but we did usually have AC.

Yes, I'd say increase the feedings and make sure you're also drinking extra water.

I don't know about going out because getting into the baking hot car could be worse than staying home. It just depends. If you do use the car, I'd cool it down with windows rolled down/AC if you can before you get in. Also dress her in loose-fitting clothes of lightweight material but keep a blanket in case it's strangely freezing in there. (This is what tends to happen where I'm from. You come into a store from the heat and it's a shock to feel the cold.)

Try to keep all the curtains/blinds closed and lights, oven, and other indoor heat sources off.

Hopefully it will pass quickly and you'll be on your way to a freezing UK soon!! :)

@blackbird: A misting bottle is not a bad idea - might have to go on a hunt to find one of those today! Unfortunately, we don't have basements in Australia but our ground floor is relatively "cool" for part of the day, which is where we are now. And I'm using the word 'cool' quite loosely. It's 10:30 a.m. and it is currently 86 F in our house. Sigh. Poor little bubby, she's got to be roasting as well. :-(

I lived in the south once and our AC went out, and boy, it was hot! I spritzed myself with a little bottle mister while i sat in front of the fan. That helped quite a bit. But i was uncomfortable most of the day. What's the coolest area of your house? Our basement always stays pleasant, as do the bathrooms, typically.

So I know it's coming in to winter where most of you are (and trust me, I would trade with you in a second) but it's coming in to summer here and we're in the midst of a brutal heat wave. We've been in the 90s F for a week straight and are going to hit 104 F (40 C) tomorrow with little in the way of a breeze and of course no cloud cover.

Unfortunately for us, we don't have air conditioning as it's generally not necessary where we are - this heat wave is quite unusual in its intensity and its duration. LO is 5 months old and has been coping ok with the recent heat, but I'm really worried about tomorrow's excessive heat. We have a little swimming pool that we've been spending time in and of course have the fans going nonstop, but any other suggestions on how to keep LO cool? I've got the shopping complex as a last resort as that does have air con, but I'd rather not spend 8 or 9 hours there tomorrow if I don't have to.

Also, LO is EBF, should she be feeding more often to keep her fluids up? She only feeds 5 times per day, about once every 2 - 2.5 hrs, but I'm wondering if that's enough to keep her hydrated?

Blah - I hate summer! And funny enough, we leave for the UK the day after tomorrow, where the temp is meant to be 3 C (37 F) when we arrive, talk about going from one extreme to another. Poor DD....she's not going to know what hit her!

Anyway, any advice on how you helped your LO cope through the hot summer days would be greatly appreciated!
