@PinkElephant: I have a 3 month old and a 3 year old and the novelty still hasn't worn off. In fact I think he's even more obsessed, lol. He keeps telling me, "my sister loves me" and petting her head and running over every time she coos. It's adorable but in the beginning I was really scared he'd accidentally hurt her. But he's gotten much more gentle with some coaching.

In the meantime I'd grab a bouncy seat and bring it with me and stick the baby in there. Or if you have gates, gate the older ones away from the little one.

She can but she's generally good about not bothering him too much. I guess it helps that she's not all that interested in him

@gingerbebe: I'd hoped this would be a possibility, but my 2.5 year old hops in and out of pack'n'plays like she's stepping over a crayon or something :(

@maddyz: Seriously, a pulley sounds good. Today I had DD3 in a rock'n'play on the landing (don't worry, it's big - she couldn't fall down the stairs) behind a gate so that her sisters would leave her alone and let her sleep.

@fancyfunction: can your older child reach through the crib? My middle one is just sticking her hands in to harass - I mean "help" - the baby. Argh, I think the novelty may just have to wear off....

We live is a small apartment so I put lo2 in his bed in our room with the door monkey to keep lo1 out. Or take one with me. Lo2 goes with me to the bathroom a lot, i put him down on a towel on the bathmat. I wish there was something he could sit in high up to be out of reach. I was joking that we should make a pulley to hang his bucket car seat from the ceiling.... I can't wear lo2 all day.

Can you have a pack n play out in the living room? My toddler can't reach into it and I drop the baby in there whenever I need to grab something.

Not sure where this really should be posted -

If you have a newborn/infant and older kids, to you have a "safe place" to put the infant if you need to leave the room (like to use the bathroom, answer the door, switch a load of laundry, etc.)? Or do you always make either the baby/older child with you, or separate them in some way?

My DDs try to be "helpful" with their newborn sister, but I'm afraid that they can be a little too rough (jamming a paci in her mouth, leaning their weight on her little body when they bend over to kiss her), or that she might get hurt if they start rough-housing or if something gets thrown. So far I've been trying to either take her (or a "helper" with me when I leave the room, or placing her on the opposite side of a baby gate when possible...but I'm wondering if there is a better solution?!
