@irene: I know this is several days later, but as a teacher I think you should talk with them again. Maybe having him say something before he goes into the bathroom will be easier for him and give the teacher a heads up to go check on him.

Kandoo wipes made by Boogie wipes, I think. Those are great. Or mostly we use regular tp.

@yellowbird: LO is turning 3 in end of January but since he was potty trained "earlier" so they pushed him into the 3+ year old classroom for over a month now. I guess 3+ year old kids would be able to wipe themselves better? Maybe that's why the teachers weren't helping with butt wiping anymore as a way to encourage independence? I don't know... but at least they are willing to help after I told them about the problem, so that was good!

@JoyfulKiwi: I know! Both the teacher and I told LO to ask the teacher to come help with wiping after BM, but it is up to LO to actually ask ....! So we still have a rashy bum occasionally :(

According to our plumber, "flushable wipes aren't flushable!" Just keep a diaper Pail in the bathroom and throw the wipes in there after.

We use the Costco Kirkland flushable wipes for poop. I don't usually use more than two b/c it can clog your toilet faster so beware of that. I've also used the perineal irrigation bottle the hospital give you after you give birth. Just make sure you clean it well inside with a brush and with hot/boiling water often.

If you have a shower/bathtub next to the toilet you can do a modified toddler bidet. (Wipe with TP first--the 'bidet' wash is only for insurance!) Just wash your hands really well afterwards. :) I'd be nervous about flushing even the 'flush able' wipes. Also, water should be less irritating to the rash than the moist wipes.

Regular wipes that we throw in a trash can.

@irene: we had this issue in my classroom recently. I feel the parents concerns (who wants a rash on the bum!) but it's also very, very difficult for a teacher to monitor one child's bm usage and offer help wiping every time. It's immensly helpful for the child to ask. I have a painfully quiet 3 year old and I would try to catch him in there, but it was hit or miss. He eventually started telling me before he went to the bathroom and I'd knock on the door a few minutes later to help.

I want to know too. It would be OK for us to be home because I can always wipe him (with toilet paper), but at school the teachers are not supposed to wipe them! Since we went back to school after the holidays he had a rash for a few days in a row. I talked to the teachers and they agreed for him to ask them to help wiping afterwards. However it is only up to LO to ask them, which he may not (maybe he is embarrassed?) !

Here are the refills for cottonelle's flushable wipes on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Cottonelle-Flushable-Cleansing-Cloths-Refill/dp/B00EDR6YB0/

If you go to the grocery store, they'll be in the same aisle as toilet paper. They sell a plastic case that you can attach to a wall or cabinet (it can be removed without leaving a mark)...or you could just use a leftover baby wipes case.

However, these wipes aren't great for the environment, and I've heard some people claim that even flushable wipes aren't good for your septic system (I don't know the veracity of that claim). Since we cloth diaper anyway, we're planning on putting wet cotton cloths in a wipes warmer in the bathroom for this use, along with a special trash can for them to be put into. We'll just have to be careful that they don't get accidentally flushed.

I have a hard time making sure lo is clean after pooping on the potty. Do they make a flushable moist wipe to use or are there any special tips? She has a little rash because I didn't get her all the way clean earlier and I feel really bad :(
