We had a tough early waking couple of months. We didn't let him nap early because ultimately it was just an extension of his night sleep and not a real nap. It sucked but he eventually got tired enough to sleep through 5 am and get out of the habit.

There was a time when he was waking due to poop, and I could see him being hungry, but I feel like he has got it in his routine now. Today, he fell asleep for an hour at 8 am. He doesn't act like he wants to be awake, he rubs his eyes for much of the morning. I just don't know how to convince him to sleep. Before all this he was doing 13 hours in a row at night, now it's more like 10.5 hours....

My 6.5 month old has been doing this since before the time change when he doesn't have another night waking. Ie, will sleep 7-5. I go in, feed him, pretend like it's a night waking and put him back in his crib with a lovey. He coos and rolls around and then protests, but usually falls asleep after 30-45 mins and sleeps for another hour or so, usually until 6:30/6:45. It doesn't help in MY sleep dept, but it's better for naps and overall schedule.

I agree with T-Mom! We went through the 5am stage too and later on I suspected he probably pooped at 5am that's why he woke up. Usually we don't change his diaper and he is fine but it is probably the pooping action that woke him.

Since he weaned himself off of the night feeding and slept through the night pretty consistently since 7 months, if he cries at night I usually don't go in until it is 6am. If he cries at 5am, I usually give him 15 minutes and he normally would go back to sleep. Now of course if he were screaming I'd go in immediately.

Sometimes I think if you keep going in and interrupt, it may prevent your baby from going back to sleep on his own?

How long has this been going on? We went through a 5 am wakeup phase, it was not fun. We let him cry a few times until we realized he was also on a 5 am poop schedule :-(. He eventually just started sleeping longer without any real interventrion from us. Sorry I don't have anything constructive, but hang in there!

My DS is nine months old and is getting up at 5 am!!! At first I thought it was the time change, he was getting up at 7:30 before the time change. Then he got a cold, and that changed everything. But now, we are a month past time change and about five days post cold, yet he still gets up at 5 am. Then he needs to take a nap at 8 am (I do too!). We have tried putting him to bed earlier, later, ignoring him, rocking him for an hour to get him to go back to sleep, feeding him. I don't know what else to do! Any suggestions?!?! I need help!
