DD has it on the backs of her arms and on the sides of her thighs. Our Dr recommended to do a little extra scrub in the bath tub on those areas and then moisturize. The Dr said they don't like to use the actual medications on young kids. I think I might try the coconut oil!

I grew up with it on my arms and legs and I guess it was mild bc it didn't bother me. My DH has it slightly on his arms as well. So my LO also has it on her legs and arms and sometimes along the side of her face. Her doc says it's just a skin condition that is cosmetic - not painful or itchy or anything. It has to do with how your skin sheds and kind of clogs the follicles.

I also grew up with really severe acne and ended up doing several courses of Accutane. It worked and my acne got way under control and a side effect of that is my KP pretty much cleared up

@Aria: you can get amlactin at Costco as well!

I have it on my arms. Amlactin works best, but exfoliating and using any good thick cream helps. I mostly use Body Shop's nut scrubs and body butters. I really doubt you need to see a dermatologist - easily made better by good moisturizing.

I've always had it on the backs of my arms and use Amlactin on it when it's bad. I might have ordered it online? Otherwise I just use a Japanese scrubby cloth on it daily which keeps it in check.

I have it on my arms. My dermatologist said lactic acid lotion would help with the bumps, but not the redness, and the redness is all that bothers me. Having a tan seems to help, but I'd rather be bumpy and red than have skin cancer, so that's out :) My mom recently told me she read that it could be a sign of gluten intolerance.

I have it on my upper arms and try not to think about it but it does embarrass me when I notice it in photos. I'm not vigilant about it but for a while I would exfoliate with St Ives apricot scrub in the shower and moisturizer with super thick lotion like Eucerin/Aquaphor. That really helped.

I developed it really bad in just the past few years. I think DS has some really mild patches on the backs of his arms. I did the lactic acid cream and it did nothing, neither did coconut oil. My next step is retin A but I'm waiting until summer is over. For DS I just use regular lotion.

My mom and my husband both have it. My mom's dermatologist recommended Amlactin. It's a lotion that's not prescription, but I think you have to get it from the pharmacist behind the counter. It did help my husband, but you have to put it on twice a day every day, and if you stop it comes back. He just gave up, it doesn't really bother him.

I've always had KP. When I was younger I was really embarrassed by it unfortunately because of the little red bumps and the rough skin. I actually refused to wear anything other than pants cause it's really bad on my legs. I saw many dermatologists and no one really helped it get better, they just told me to continuously moisturize. I did find that using a loofa to scrub off the dead skin does help.
Growing up my parents always told me that I was beautiful no matter what and reminded me that there could be way worse things in life than dry, rough skin. It took me a long time to accept but now it doesn't bother me quite as much. I try to moisturize twice a day, especially in winter when it's worse.
Try to get LO on a good skin care regime early on so moisturizing frequently just becomes a habit. And always let her know she's beautiful no matter what :) although, maybe I just had low self esteem as a child and KP wouldn't necessarily bother other people.

My DH and LO have this. My DH has never done anything about it because he's scared of doctors, but I plan to ask my pediatrician about it at her next appt (the 'rash' really became obvious only a few weeks ago).

It's never given my husband any trouble, other than the fact he's embarrassed about it. If my ped doesn't recommend anything, I'll just wait to see if it bothers my LO cosmetically and then go from there.
