I have it too (and it got way worse when I was pregnant) and have recently been treating it with coconut oil based on suggestions from the internet. It has definitely been helping. I've only been doing it a few weeks though.

I have pretty bad KP on my arms and legs. I tried Amlactin and it didn't do much for me. I went to see a dermatologist and she prescribed a cream (that was in an aerosol can) that helped tremendously!! It wasn't safe to use while pregnant so I stopped, and the moment I stopped, the bumps came back. It was also costly, I think $50?

A dermatologist once prescribed me a urea cream which worked really well, but I got tired of applying it every day so I didn't bother getting the rx refilled.

I use a nut scrub for exfoliation but sugar scrubs are nice too. And then super thick lotion! LacHydrin is fine for kids >2 years and up. I actually prefer a thick Body Butter though.

@macintosh: @ldh112: @clover: Thanks! We're pretty good about moisturizing, but not exfoliating. Just with a loofah?

I agree with @clover! I use AmLactin for KP. I've found it cheapest at Costco or Amazon. Definitely check with the doctor. From experience, It can cause increased sun sensitivity.

Keeping skin moisturized can help. Also lotions like AmLactin and Lac-Hydrin have lactic acid in them and definitely help but I'd probably double check with your pediatrician before using.

I have KP. It's most helpful if I exfoliate often and moisturize. I've heard of a lotion called Amlactin with lactic acid to exfoliate, but I'm not sure if it's safe for littles.

DS (2yo) has keratosis pilaris absolutely covering his upper arms and thighs and has had it for a year or so. I know it isn't uncomfy because I often have it mildly on my upper arms. His pediatrician just said I was right and dismissed me when I asked him to confirm that it was kp. I know it's no biggie, but it's getting worse. Anyone have any home treatments that work to lessen severity?
