We've had quikset for 7-8 years. It's been fine and I don't remember how we changed the batteries out. I think it made a weird sound that alerted it. Anyway...it's been great. DH figured it out and installed it himself. I also have keyless entry on my car and use a crossbody bag so I'm hands-free most of the time.

The disadvantage is when we have houseguests and they go outside, we have to tell them how to open it as it locks them out. *Happened to LOs babysitter. *Also my curious neighbor kids probably have the code memorized bc they play in our yard and I'm not being stealth about it when I open the door.

@Pumpkin Pie: what happens is you have to call a locksmith and pay $100 for them to unlock your door... ask me how I know :silly: Ours did not give us much of a warning. It gave us a weird beep in the morning, then the next time it failed.

We now keep an extra key hidden somewhere and I have a calendar reminder to change the battery yearly.

We have a schlage. We've had it about a month and love it. Ours has a place you can connect a 9v battery externally if the battery dies. Not that we keep one handy but it would be easy enough to get one if needed.

We have the Schlage Sense. I've had some issues with the app, but overall we really like it. We were able to install it ourselves and neither of us is particularly handy.

@Pumpkin Pie: we are building and had this as an option and they said when it beeps you have 48hr to replace batteries. We didn't get these for the reason that I can def see it needing batteries while we're on vacation then being stuck lol

@Pumpkin Pie: we have this one plus a handle

We did install it ourselves. It was a bit fiddly to set up but it eventually worked and we haven't had an issue since. I love it!

We found one on clearance at Home Depot and my hubby installed it easily. It's been really nice for all the above listed reasons.

If the battery dies you can use a key to get in. I think they chirp to warn you the battery is going too.

My only issue and its something that doesn't really bother me any more is that our makes a lot of noise when pushing the buttons and my hubby works graveyards so when he came home it woke me up. Now most of the time I sleep through it. But I wish we got a quieter one...

My son, dogs, and cats are also know trained to the noise to know that the beeps mean somebody is coming in the house....

@PurplePeony: what happens if you are out of the house when the battery runs out? I see that some of them come with keys, but some of them seem to not have the keyhole.

We have a Schlage, but not one of the wifi ones. We LOVE it! Never have to carry keys and it's so easy to put a code in for guests, catsitter, etc and then remove it when it's not needed anymore. I installed ours myself and it can be a bit fiddly but if you follow the instructions, it's totally doable. The battery lasts a long time, though they recommend you change it once a year, and it's simple, just two screws. I highly recommend it! No downsides so far and we've been using it for 5 years.

The ones we have require batteries, that's the only downside I can think of. Otherwise, I recommend them in at least one door in a house. This way you don't have to give your key to neighbors or hide it somewhere.

we have the schlage sense one. It's great. You can program codes via an app and give access to certain codes only at certain times.

We are actually in a Townhouse at the shore all month and we have a keypad entry. We love it! No keys to remember and when we have guests we don't have to worry about how they will come and go. We just give them the code. It looks like this on all doors.

I've read several people here talk about having a keyless lock for their home. My toddler has been opening and locking our door and I'm always worried that she will lock us out, so I'd like to get one.

Does anyone recommend theirs? Are there any disadvantages to having it over a traditional lock?
