I have a Kia Sorento and ADORE it! We can fit 3 car seats safely across the middle seat with plenty of room, and have tons of room in the back with the 3rd row folded down. To have more room for people, you can raise the 3rd row and take out one of the seats in the middle row, too (it makes the back row easier to get to). Kia Sorentos are very well made, and because they are engineered to be on a different frame (it sits on a truck frame) than most SUVs, the rollover risk is less than other vehicles in the same class. Also, the 4/6 cylinder cycling helps with gas mileage (the engine shuts off two cylinders to save gas when possible - mine usually runs on four). I've had mine for 4 years.

We have a Kia Sorento and like it a lot. With the third row folded down there is plenty of cargo space. The third row is sort of a pain to get to, but if you're not planning to use it very often then that won't be a big deal (we rarely use ours). We got it because of the price and warranty.

Just to give a slightly different perspective, we've been looking for a bigger car too and I got pdfs of the 2016 consumer reports guide to use (check your local library, I use the pdfs all the time).

If you want to keep it for a long time (longer than 4 years), I'd stay away from the Acadia like the plague. It has consistently been rated a worst car to buy from a maintenance/quality standpoint for several years. MY MIL has one and it is only a couple years old, but her transmission went out already and she's had to do repairs to the AC and suspension.

@peachykeen: Good point on the air vents! The Terrain does NOT have air vents at all in the back. Where you live, much like where we live, you need that.

@FaithFertility: We have an Acadia and HAD a Terrain. I found the Terrain to be too small for kid cargo. We got rid of it when C turned one because I had enough of battling the stroller and anything else we might be hauling (groceries). We have plenty of room in our Acadia for the four of us and we keep the third row down almost always.

That being said, if you haul others often, the third row isn't very comfy and the leg room is pretty awful back there. I've sat back there on more than one occasion and I don't think we could get three adults back there for very long. And with the third row up you really have little cargo space.

I can't speak to the Kia at all, but I'd definitely skip the Terrain with two kids.

My neighbors just traded in their Acadia they hated it so much. Her two are 13 months apart, and she said it drove terribly, it was hard to get kids in and out, and they switched over to Honda.

@avivoca: @FaithFertility: We bought a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport in July and I love it! I test drove the Kia Sorento (my 3rd favorite), Mazda CX-5 (2nd favorite), Mazda CX-7, and Honda CRV and the Hyundai was the clear winner for us.

The Santa Fe Sport is the 2-row version of the Santa Fe, but they are very similar. The Santa Fe has rear air vents which we appreciate with our rear-facing car seat in the Georgia heat. I think it may have been the only one that did - can't remember for sure.

We fit our double jogging stroller in the back no problem - I think we still had room for other stuff too.

@FaithFertility: I'm driving a Nissan Versa now and in four years have only had one major repair. Check out the Hyundai, it was zippy and my husband loved it (he rented one and drove it for two weeks for work).

I just got rid of our Acadia, honestly a double stroller would only fit if you laid down the back seat, the cargo area wasn't as big as expected and that's bigger than the Terrain. We almost always had the 3rd row folded down unless we had to use it for my nieces or something!
