We've got the Kia Sedona. Definitely more features at a lower price point. Finishings aren't a big deal to me (I mean this is a kid car, they're going to trash it anyway) so I haven't noticed anything bad about the plastic, cloth or whatever else they used.

So I don't have a Kia (I did test-drive the Sorento and liked it) but I drive a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. I've been told by the dealers that the brands are essentially the same - built on the same body, owned by the same company, etc. I really like my Hyundai and the Kia was just a little more pared-down version of the Hyundai at the time. DH drives a Kia Cadenza and has been very happy with it as well.

@agold: Either late next year or maybe 2021. That would be 10 years since I bought it. We still have a little bit to pay off on my husband's truck, so we have some time. We also haven't set a firm timeline for expanding our family from 1 kid to 2, so that will probably sway us one way or another.

@krispi: The interior of the Atlas looks good too! I don't know anything about VWs but may be interested in looking at that one also. Not sure if I like the exterior at this point, though. But still considering it! When are you thinking you will get your new car?

@agold: Oh, I didn't mean to sound like we're for sure getting another Sorento. I wouldn't be against it, but it might be good to have more room if we have another kid. I also want to look at the Honda Pilot and VW Atlas. As we find out more about this new Teluride, it might be worth considering too.

@krispi: A good turning radius is awesome to have! Its awesome that you will be getting another Sorrento. You must be so happy with it. A multiple kids is an issue. I also want to be able to take my mom, sister and niece in the car as well as my two girls! That's why I'm looking into this three row car in particular.

@MamaBear87: I have a friend that works in financing at the Kia dealership! (His family actually owns it). I'm so excited to hopefully be able to get a good deal. I currently drive an X5. I love it so much. Its bigger than a jeep cherokee and handles so well. I love the covered maintenance and the customer service at the dealership.
But I'm interested in a three row and don't want to pay as much for the newer X5 that is supposed to have a third row. I want to pay significantly less since my two girls are costing more and more every day! (ETA: It's so hard to be giving up pieces of my pre-kid life - like this car!)

@agold: financing is really going to be pretty comparable across all the major brands. And a point or 2 financing wise really doesn't make much difference in the final payment. Often it's better to take the cash off offer and forgo the 0% that's often offered.

What kind of car do you currently have?

I have a 2011 Kia Sorento that I got in late 2011, so just over 7 years now. I've been really pleasantly surprised with it. I traded in my beloved Honda Accord and never thought I'd love another car as much. But I've really enjoyed the Kia. It drives well, has great visibility, and has a great turning radius for squeezing into tiny parking spaces in the city. I did a lot of research before I bought it, and at the time no one else was offering exactly what I wanted - a small to mid size SUV with a V6 engine that was affordable. We'll probably upgrade the Sorento in the next couple of years. The backseat seems like it would be kind of small for multiple kids. But at over 80,000 miles, the only major issues I've had were with a dealer who wrecked my power steering while doing an oil change (covered under warranty anyway) and when I sideswiped another car in a dark, rainy parking lot (totally my fault) - nothing from the actual car itself.

@babycanuck: All good things to hear. I'm trying to lower my car expenses now because, well, shifting priorities. I would love great financing and that's what's peaking my interest.

@MamaBear87: All great points, I really don't want cheap feeling finishes either. I mostly want a sturdy safe car. I'm considering buying my current car when the lease is up. I love it but don't want the expensive maintenance. So I am really so torn! I will absolutely buy a car as soon as I find one that I love and in that case, would totally buy a used car rather than a cheap feeling new one.

We looked at the optima when we were replacing my husband's older car. I wanted to love it because we could get so many bells and whistles for so cheap but I just couldn't do it. When you're getting everything for practically half the cost the concessions are in how cheap everything is. Sure you have nav and a sun roof, but all the plastic in the car is that hard brittle kind. The enclosures for the front dash are all cheap feeling, the cloth or leather is cheap and I can't imagine holds up well. I was just unimpressed by the whole car

That said the telluride has a higher starting price so we might check it out if it's actually released before the lease is up on our truck.

For me I'd rather buy something a couple years old with nicer finishing than be unhappy every time I get in my car

I have had a Forte for the last 8 years and I love it! It's great on gas, I was able to get a great deal on financing and I've never had any major issues with it. I only recently this week had to swap out my battery for a new one.

@Sams Mom: I'm shocked to be considering it! :silly: I love warranties, so that is good to hear.

@gotkimchi: I don't have snow issues and wouldn't be taking this car in the snow. Interesting about the batteries being heavy. I don't like light cars. They make me feel like I'm in a paper air plane. :silly: I like a car to feel like a heavy tank. :silly: (ETA: This is from slight PTSD caused by being in a terrible accident years ago.) But, I'm really interested in this Telluride so I hope I like it!

We have two kias and LOVE them. They come with all the upgrades for so cheap and the gas mileage can’t be beat. Where do you live? We get a lot of snow by us and our niro handles great, I think cuz the batteries weigh it down. Our forte was so light if we kept it we would have needed snow tires

@agold: not a Kia person at all, but that is actually the first not ugly Kia SUV I've seen. I do know they have great extended warranties though.

I'm going to be getting a different car in soon and just learned about the Kia Telluride coming out. I've never had a Kia, driven a Kia, or even considered a Kia. But they look pretty cool. Is anyone considering getting one? Or does anyone have experience with Kias in general? Good cars or not? I've heard about some engine fires, but BMW also has that problem.
