Cape Cod! Beaches/resorts with spas, cute and delicious places to eat, shopping! The only reason we chose not to do it for a babymoon was because we only live a couple hours away and go all the time.

This place in NH is an hour and a half from it and we love doing weekend trips there - http://millfalls.com/church-landing. There's a nice spa, lots of restaurants in close proximity, and the lake is gorgeous. Oh, and they have an adults only pool and hot tub :).

@PinkElephant: If the flight is too much, I've been to Charleston a few times and always love it. It'll be pretty hot there in August, but if you have the beach/pool to cool off it's not so bad!

@PinkElephant: we always go to Charleston in August and while it is definitely hot, it you're just wanting to relax by the pool/beach and hit up good restaurants, I think it's perfect. There are a lot of great rental beach houses/condos in the isle of palms. There you'll be walking distance to the beach and a less than 20 min drive to downtown Charleston.

@Truth Bombs: Great minds :)....I just sent my DH a link on the barrier islands (but hadn't gotten to specific resorts yet) - thanks!

@daniellemybelle: Thanks - I was definitely thinking that the Bahamas/Bermuda are pretty much on the same latitude as the NC beaches we'll be going to this summer...will have to look into it a little more carefully, though I wonder if it would be chaos with school holidays!

@snowjewelz: @MaryM: @catlady: @Silva: Thank you - it's so funny everyone is saying New England. DH was also suggesting Maine (I could go for some great seafood!) - I hadn't thought a lot about going north of where we live (NYC) because I was thinking "warm"....but in August I think it's warm just about everywhere in the US (and not brutally hot, which is a plus!) I last went to Charleston in February and thought DH would love it....but it was warm....in February, haha. He'll actually probably have more heat issues wherever we go than I will :)

Vermont is beautiful in the summer, Stowe is a lovely town with some spa/hotels, good restaurants, some shopping, hiking, etc. and is near Burlington which is a bigger "city" with more shopping and restaurant options.

I love Charleston! But the heat in the summer is pretty brutal even if you aren't pregnant.

If you are thinking outside the country, there was not a single mosquito or really any bugs at all when we were in the Bahamas. I know they are thought of as part of the Caribbean but they are not geographically in the same area as the Caribbean countries with Zika. There has not been a single incidence of Zika last I checked, even travel related.

@PinkElephant: I would go here. https://www.kiawahresort.com/accommodations/the-sanctuary-hotel

You're so close to Charleston so you can enjoy the amazing food etc, but you're on the beach so you can relax and get a break from the heat in the water.

In New England...Newport would be a nice place with good food options. My parents used to love having get aways there (I went as a kid and don't remember a whole lot)

How about just heading to New England? Obviously not tropical but August will be warm (I admit the ocean water is usually cold). There are so many little resort towns to choose from. We are actually going to just do a staycation in Boston for our babymoon this year and a short trip to Nantucket at the end of the summer.

If you're interested in Pacific NW, I did Portland OR as a little babymoon last time I was pregnant and it was nice but we ran out of things to do in the city pretty quickly. Ended up renting a car and driving to the coast one day and inwards along the Columbia River Highway another day, and both of those trips were nice (but long stretches in the car).

I have to imagine that Charleston in August would be pretty miserable heat/humidity wise. We went in late September for our honeymoon and it was still rather hot.

In August, I'd head for mountains. Maybe Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge Tennessee (or somewhere else in the Great Smoky Mountains)

My in-laws have generously offered to watch my daughters for a few days while DH and I take a little babymoon this August. Typically we'd go somewhere tropical, but with Zika a concern, most of the usual suspects are out of the question.

We'd love somewhere warm enough to make use of a really nice pool or beach, with lots good food options. The primary focus will be relaxation - I'll be pretty pregnant at that point and don't think I'll feel like doing a lot of city sightseeing or active hiking (though a light hike would probably be okay if it isn't terribly hot). One place we are currently considering is Charleston; DH is interested in the Pacific Northwest, but I don't really know much about options there. I'm open to Europe, but know many cities virtually shut down in August.

Thanks in advance!
