All the suggestions upthread are great, NYC is actually super kid friendly and I take my kids everywhere. That said, I think Landmarc in Time Warner Center is ideal, easy to get into because it is so big and they have a ridiculous number of high chairs! I love the Smith and really you can't go wrong with any of their locations.

@caterw: OH if you're by Columbia there are lots of places nearby that are great with kids! Friedman's, Flat Top, Pisticci, and Community are all delicious and in Morningside Heights and very, very friendly with kiddos.

@Trailmix: I can see why you never leave!! My brother lives in an apartment that is walking distance to the Cloisters Museum and has totally converted me to an honorary "Uptown Girl" hahaha. It's so much more enjoyable than the craziness of staying downtown.

Oh, great area (I thought that's where you guys might be!). I live on the UWS, so it's just a quick straight shot south a few blocks. I can probably really only recommend places in this neighborhood since I rarely leave it, haha...All these are located between West 96th Street and West 59th Street.

Mermaid Inn (seafood, 'cool spot', excellent food, believe they have limited outdoor seating)

Nice Matin (French, outdoor seating)

Isabella's (American nouveau, classic UWS, outdoor seating)

The Smith at Lincoln Center (American classics, fun atmosphere, outdoor seating)

Landmarc in the Time Warner Center (overlooks Central Park, American classics)

Red Farm (updated Chinese, hard to get into)

Seraphina's (Classic NYC, Italian, has limited outdoor seating)

Playa Betty's (California cuisine, very family-friendly)

Sarabeth's is an NYC staple for kids.
The Smith (it's a little loud which makes conversation challenging, but it's good for masking the sound of kids crying 😂)
I've heard great things about Hardings for kids but have never been.

I agree with @Mrs. Bee: that most places will probably be fine, especially if you're going to dinner on the earlier side (5/6pm). I usually just call and ask if they have highchairs and if they do, that's a sign to me that they are ok with kids.

If you like cool tapas type places, Stanton Social and Beauty & Essex are both good and have been around a long time. Unique stuff like tomato soup and grilled cheese "dumplings". I would just call and ask about highchairs / kids. I've only ever been there later at night.
Also, The Dutch is phenomenal and a hip spot, again, I'd call and ask about kids.

@nana87 That pizza place looks SOOOOO GOOD and it so close to where we will be, but my husband manages a Mellow Mushroom pizza place, so we can't ever go out for pizza (not even in New York :( ). It makes me sad because I super love pizza.

@trailmix @pinkelephant We will be in the Columbia University area, but we will have 2 cars in the city so we can go to different neighborhoods if there is someplace really good.

I stay in Brooklyn mostly but I love Carmine's (Italian) huge servings (family style). My splurge place is Plataforma. Brazilian steakhouse. We usually go at an off time (in between lunch and dinner) so it's not crowded. They have the best kids goodie bags ( lots of random things, sunglasses, coloring book, plastic tops).

@fancyfunction: aww, the tribeca Landmarc is a huge favorite of DH's and mine from when we were first dating in NYC almost 10 years ago! :)

@caterw: I think you'll find that many places (even some pricier/fancier ones) are more kid friendly than you think, if you're willing to eat at say, 6 pm rather than 8 pm. Will throw out some suggestions once I know what neighborhood you're looking in. :)

Hey Bees!

My whole family is going to NYC in a couple of weeks for my brother's college graduation, which also happens to be my birthday! My brother told me I could choose where to get dinner since he has spent the past 4 years getting to eat out in New York. We will have seven -ten adults (depending on how many friends my brother brings), and DD (who is 2.5). I can't seem to find a list of nice restaurants in NYC that are kid-friendly- all the kid suggestions I've seen are hamburgers or pizza type of places. I don't need a restaurant that has a kid's menu, just somewhere with a booster seat where other diners won't side-eye me for bringing a toddler. My kiddo eats a variety of things and I can usually find something for us to split. My family loves cool cuisine (a recent favorite find was a Balkan tapas place in DC), we don't mind spending a bit to get a great meal, and most people in my family enjoy a good wine or cocktail list as well :)

Any suggestions?
