DD has been using our regular utensils since she was about 3.5. We started having her use our regular dishes at the same age, but still have some plastic ones for occasional use. We really like the replay divided ones linked above as well as the replay deep sides plates - they are nice for giving an edge for things that need to be scooped.

We use these divided plates, bowls and cups. They are made of recycled materials and are very sturdy.

My 5 year old uses our regular utensils now. He asked to start using them around 4.5 and has been successful.

I like ikea for cutlery and target for divided plates. The kids have their own low drawer for dishes and cups so they set their own table (they eat earlier than us) and we also eat outside a lot so they set the table themselves out there (which involves a steep set of stairs so I don’t want glass or ceramic on that). Target makes both divided and undivided plates, as well as matching bowls.

Sometimes we use cheapo plastic plates from Ikea but mostly we use our regular bowls/salad plates and also I serve a lot in ramekins. I think I’ve broken more bowls/plates than they have.

My 6 & 8 year old have been using our regular Oneida teaspoons and salad forks for awhile now. The exceptionally small three year old likes to use them, but I think she does a bit better with kid-sized cutlery (we have a few Nuby sets with the metal "heads", and some similar Disney ones).

Recently I've just been having the girls use our regular Crate & Barrel dishes, or our outdoor melamine set when we are dining on the patio/if I'm sending them out to the playset to eat. In the last year, we've broken one bowl, and that was because my 3 year old whacked it off the table (and I wasn't watching her like I should have been). I personally find that kiddie plastic doesn't dry well in the dishwasher, so using "real" dishes saves me a lot of work!

My kids (4&6) just use our regular spoons and salad forks. The do still have plastic bowls they use from Target and cups.

We just use our normal every day dishes at cutlery for my 3.5 and 8 year old. We do have some plastic bowls from target that we use for snacks. But they handle the every day stuff pretty well and we haven’t had any broken dishes yet...

My kids have always used Corelle dishes. I buy the plain white ones and they’re more than adequate in size and durability. Plus they come in a million different sizes. My 5 year old and 3 year old have been using the “salad forks” and “teaspoons” from a set of IKEA cutlery for while now. Not fancy but durable and affordable.

https://www.corelle.com/product/winter-frost-white-6-ounce-mini-dip-bowl
We use those for cereal and soup and rice bowls.

https://www.corelle.com/product/winter-frost-white-24-ounce-dip-condiment-bowl
Those for smaller things like cut fruit

And the salad plates for regular dinner plates for the kids.

Any recommendations for durable dishes (plates, bowls, cups) and/or cutlery suitable for an almost 4.5 year old?

My DD is still mainly using this plastic set (https://www.amazon.com/Kids-Mainstays-Microwave-dishwasher-toddler/dp/B07NWY5PTX/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=mainstays+plastic+kids+dishes&qid=1597463195&sr=8-3)
I bought years ago, but I think she’s ready for something a little more “grown up”.

Would also appreciate any recommendations for kid friendly cutlery.

TIA!
