9/10 adult music. For a long road trip we played kiddie music and LO absolutely loved it. I can see the appeal because he's content with adult music, but was enthusiastic with his singalongs.

DS is really into numbers these days, so he insists we turn on the "numbers" in the car, meaning the radio. So we just enjoy listening to NPR! Yesterday they were talking about net neutrality and all day he asked us what the Internet was (he's 2.5). That was tough!

The only kids music we've ever listened to is sanitized pop music aka Kidz Bop. Not Raffi or kids songs, those stopped pretty much at the age of 2 when he lost interest in the Wheels on the Bus.

We usually listen to an audiobook- typically something from the kid section that is agreeable to mommy as well (Narnia, Little Women, Redwall, Anne of Green Gables have all been hits with DD and have enough of a plot to entertain mommy). We also rotate like 15 minutes of Disney with 15 minutes of adult music or sometimes we listen to NPR if one of my favorite programs is on. My daughter used to hum along to the Diane Rehm theme song 😂😂😂

Kids music.

DS1 has always liked music and he was speech delayed so anything that encouraged him to sing and talk and rhyme and what not was fine with me. If that meant we listened to Itsy Bitsy a million times, fine. It also keeps tantrums and screaming to a minimum in the car because he is distracted by his jams. We listen to his "mix" in the car, in the bath, pretty much anywhere and anytime he wants music. DS2 is similarly musical and claps along and does the motions from school and stays happy too.

I find the majority of adult music to be inappropriate for kids these days unless I'm cherry picking the list, so its just easier to throw on the kids songs. DH doesn't mind either, so whatever. We're THAT family.

4 year old is currently loving Hamilton. Though DH says that if he has to listen to The Schuyler Sisters one more time, he's going to jump out of the car. I love Hamilton, but do occasionally have to pay attention for when Hercules Mulligan drops the f-bomb. I just don't want her singing that at school......

Usually kid music- toddler radio for my 1 year old or Moana/Trolls for 5 year old. They both love to sing and I like it when they're happy in the car. Every few days I get sick of it and put on my music... and always NPR when I'm driving alone.

We listen to regular radio stations until she gets fussy, then I have a CD of kids songs I play. Most of the time for short trips, the radio is fine. Longer trips, drive throughs, or any traffic situation usually mean kids songs to entertain her.

DS has no concept of kids songs since he doesn't like tv. We do a lot of adult radio since he likes country and hard rock. I frequently listen to podcasts, but not while he's in the car since the podcasts I listen too are very adult topics.

we do a pretty even mix of kids music, adult music (usually beatles, classical, coldplay or something like that), and audiobooks...usually kids classics (narnia series) that appeal to everyone or kids stories.

For short drives it's adult radio/music. On long drives we mostly listen to podcasts, although this summer we did check out some books with cd's from the library, and DD1 LOVED listening to those in the car. Those were a small portion of our longer trips though.

@Foodnerd81: my 2yo looooves moana. He asks every car ride and loves to yell "it's Maui time" when that song comes on. I like it too though.

Otherwise I aim for adult music that is kid friendly. Pentatonix, vitamin string quartet, some Adele. I try to be really careful about lyrics with a 5yo!

But I used to know the words to all the Thomas and friends songs so it's only more recently I got away from kid stuff!

When it's me and the kids in the car, we mostly listen to the Kids Bop XM station - if I feel like channel surfing a bit more we do adult music, but then I have to hop around when certain songs come on. My three year old in particular is disturbingly good at inserting song lyrics into conversation funny/potentially inappropriate ways, so I need to watch it on the explicit/sexual music content. :) If DH is in the car, too, we use his spotify and I make playlists so we can hear what we like, but choose edited versions in case the kids start repeating.

@Foodnerd81: ughhhh my kids have learned to ask Alexa (Amazon Echo) for Frozen song after Frozen song. I tried to tell it not to listen to them anymore and it told me something like "Sorry. I was taught never to ignore anyone!"

mostly kids, but it really helps that I don't mind most of it. We listen to a Disney movie station on pandora which is good at mixing adult and kid music.

But now my 1.5 yo is obsessed with Moana songs and just yells out Moana! Until another song from the movie comes on, then she yells Moana to make sure I know this song is indeed from the movie. So that's fun.

Kids, most of the time. We started because DD has been super prone to carsickness ever since she turned 1, and I felt bad and wanted to give her something to cheer her up so we started always allowing her to choose the music. I sort of wish we hadn't started that because now she expects "her" music, but luckily we only use the car on weekends, so it's not so bad. Eventually I will have to wean her off!

We do a mix. I used to listen to NPR, but found that it was stressing me out, so I switched to music. I made a deal with the kids (well, with D (4.5yo)) that we listen to his music in the morning, my music in the afternoon. But his music is usually either Disney music, which I totally don't mind, or his chosen playlist of adult music (Elton John, Johnny Cash, Beastie Boys). He's also recently been asking for Hamilton, soo...yeah. I'm cool with listening to "kids" music.

ETA: Listening to his music on the way to school was the suggestion of his therapist to help lessen his anxiety at drop-off.
