@MrsBells, I know right? Bring back the classics!
I actually use to work in a daycare and Sponge Bob was NOT allowed there. They kids were lucky to have the TV on ONCE a week, if that. For special occasions kids could bring a movie or cartoon from home and Sponge Bob (and others like that) were not allowed.

I also cant stand all the "newer" cartoons. Spongebob square pants just confuses me, the whole concept is bizarre. What happened to looney tunes, woody wood pecker and bugs bunny and good old tom and jerry?

Def dislike spongebob and not allowed in our house.
Some are OK, but you def need to be more selective and watch whats on its seems. Some I find so disgusting.

I definitely am not loving all the new cartoons and so-called "kid" shows that are out now. There are very few that seem age appropriate. I have no idea what I'll allow our child to watch when the time comes!!

@Rosie Girl: Yeah, even as we got older, the shows we watched have lessons. I remember Saved By the Bell would have a lesson to learn. I don't think they would come out an admit it but I still learned something. Also, I love Full House and Family Matters.

@bluestriped bee: I forgot about Doug too! Man there were so many good ones!!!! The cartoons that DS does get to watch (on Netflix and monitored by me!) do have lessons, but it seems like there are so many that don't anymore.

I was watching Doug recently and I liked how at the end of the cartoon, there was a lesson to be learned. I loved Sailor Moon as a child and I remember they had a 'Sailor Moon says...' part at the end. I haven't watched anything recently since I don't have kids but do any of them have a lesson anymore?

@bluestriped bee: I forgot about Clarissa! I loved that show!!! And I LOVED the Magic School Bus, it was one of my favorites!

@NYCaliMama: DS watches Word World on Netflix. It is really neat because everything is made up of the letters. So the dog is the letters DOG put together. It focuses on how to spell words and the words that make up our world!

I loved Beverly Hills Teens. I wanted to be Lark... Loved her outfit!

Cartoons these days are pretty all over the board. It's amazing how many kids' shows are out there. We've come across annoying ones, funny ones for adults too (Phineas and Ferb has some pretty witty dialogue), educational ones, and some simply adorable ones (Ni Hao Kai-lan is pretty cute).

For DD, right now I like when she watches Super Why which focuses on reading and pre-reading skills. Some of her fun cartoons are modernized versions of my faves like Strawberry Shortcake and My Little Pony.

I remember watching Clifford: the big red dog, The magic schoolbus. The Jetsons, The flintstones, Salute your shorts, Doug, Clarissa explains it all, Tiny Toons, Captain Planet.

I did love Jimmy Neutron a couple years ago. My nephew who was 8 used to call me and tell me that he was watching my favorite cartoon.

Classic Eighty cartoons were awesome!

I hope by the time our baby is old enough to watch TV, TV is better, but in the meantime, thank goodness for DVD sets. My kids will be able to watch great TV, without commercials and without the brainless crap available now.

I can't stand MOST cartoons on today.

DS watches mostly superhero cartoons (the ones that were on back when I was growing up) and Phineas & Ferb... which both DH and I like! lol

It seems cartoons today aren't what they used to be, at all!

I remember watching Care Bears and Gummy Bears when I was little. It seemed like cartoons were "better" when I was a kid. Now when I see what kind of cartoons there are, I am baffled! Granted, we don't have TV, so I am only seeing a handful of shows that are out there, but still.

For example, I can't handle Spongebob, and don't want my children watching it. It seems like there are a lot of cartoons like that now too.

What cartoons did you watch when you were little? What cartoons are on now that you can't stand?
