I got them the Unicef version of the Fitbit and they love it! It charges easily and just has the basics of step counting. You need to activate it with the Unicef kids app but it's great because it provides motivation in showing them how every step they take can help provide nutrition bars to kids in need. And they have celebrities that give background on different parts of the world.

@woodentulip: I forgot it even had a battery! 😬 is it one of those coin batteries or do you have to buy something special? I better stock up as we’re coming close to a year and she’ll freak out if it dies!!

Both my kids wear the garmin vivofit jr (older models)--they have had them for a few years, and we have found customer service to be incredible, devices to be engaging enough to hold interest, and pretty reliable. The battery life is supposed to be a year (I found it was a little less), and my kids wear them 100% of the time--really recommend!

@hellobeeboston: I think the cheaper kid versions are all pretty basic but there are definitely gps watches out there like gizmo (a lot more $ though and I think requires some kind of phone plan)

My son just asked for one of these! I wear a FitBit Versa and really like it - i think he sees me using it along with friends at school with them and that's why he wants it -- not sure it's worth it though... I wouldn't mind being able to track his sleep, etc with it - and is it GPS enabled? That might be nice sometimes too....

My 6 year old asked for a "running watch with step counter" for Christmas. She's currently very into running races and does Marathon Kids 3 days a week after school, so this seems like a reasonable request to me. Does anyone have experience with the Fitbit Ace or have a different kids activity tracker that they would recommend?
