She has a light on her ceiling fan but she also has a light on a bookshelf that we use to read with. She can reach it but never does. She asks us to turn it on it she wants it on.

In my son's room, he has a bedside table lamp (with a switch on the cord to turn it on and off so he doesn't have to touch the actual lamp), a 3D puzzle/LED lamp with a remote control (again so he doesn't have to touch it) and a touch sensitive desk lamp.

The bedside lamp is a traffic cone and has an LED bulb so it doesn't get hot.

@nana87: the nursery in our condo has giant Windows, practically floor to ceiling and it's the entire wall almost (a small wall but still). And we keep the crappy paper temporary blinds up and black out curtains closed at all times because it's too much work to open them! But the windows are behind her bed too. In the Newhouse they will be more accessible at least.

our apt also doesn't have overhead lamps, and lo has never messed with her floor or table lamps! the floor lamp is from pbk, and the table lamp is from west elm. her room gets really good light but we actually usually keep her shades closed anyway (we're lazy about opening and closing them, lol)

@chopsuey: @Mrsbells: so your LOs didn't try to mess with the floor lamp? That's promising.

@Mrsbells: we have an IKEA led nightlight now but I feel like it's too bright for sleeping. I'm planning to move t to the hall or bathroom and get softer ones for their rooms.

In her old room she had similar Ikea lamp but it had two lamp heads. we used it for years with no issue. Additionally we used LED night lights that have a sensor and come on when its dark

Back when we lived downtown, DD's room didn't have a light fixture. We bought a floor lamp from ikea and it worked well. She was 1.5-3.5 yo when we lived in the apt and we didn't have any problems.
It was similar to this one

http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/90301046/

What kind of lighting do you have in your kids' rooms if there is no overhead lighting? I just realized neither of the girls' rooms have ceiling fixtures. For the baby, in a crib, I can just put a regular lamp on a nightstand and worry later. But the toddler is in a bed and very curious, so I'm a little concerned about a normal lamp getting knocked over and broken. Plus trying to figure out what will make the room bright enough too. Neither of the rooms gets great light from the windows.

Pictures if you have lamps you love would be great!

Down the line we have talked about adding a ceiling light of some sort but that's way down the line.
