My kids (twins) have always shared a room, so we have an advantage in that they're used to each other. 99% of the time they don't wake each other up anymore. The exception is if they're both sick or already sleeping badly. They're much more likely to wake each other up then, or the other will pop awake the second I walk in the room to nurse the other kid. Can't miss out on that! Ha. My biggest tip is white noise. I think that helps them get used to sleeping with some kind of noise instead of a very quiet room.

@bhbee: If one kid is disrupting the other's sleep, we will usually take him to our own bed or to the couch.

Hope the room sharing is going better now!!

my kids who are newly 2 and 5 just started sharing a room. I know it's somewhat inevitable they will wake each other up, but do any veterans of room sharing have tips? for example last night my 2yo woke up screaming (never figured out why). couldn't get him to calm down so we took him out of the room, but then of course trying to get him back in without more crying was basically impossible. any tricks to minimize disruption to the other kid?
