When we go to extended family gatherings, there is typically a kids table. At Christmas, it was DH, DD1 and my high school age cousins LOL. This year's was kind of a cluster because the 'kids' table' had five kids under 3 and their six parents. My kids sit with us, and sometimes we're at the main adult table. Honestly, we all stayed at the "kids" table into adulthood. The separate tables were less about separating adults and kids and more that no one had a table big enough to fit everybody. It's just my inlaws, BIL, his two girls, GF, and us 4. Our table has 2 leaves and we can fit up to 12 comfortable. If my family had ended up coming up, I would've added some fold up tables at the end to extend the table.
