@MrsLonghorn: this is us. I eat right away, (especially now that I'm pregnant!!) and DH almost never eats breakfast.

My son is 100% like my husband. He can eat right away where as I need quite a while to get hungry and I'm often a skip breakfast kind of person.

I usually am not hungry right away.
DD is same as me. DS could eat a horse the second he wakes up. Lol. I feed them kind of on demand. She tells me when she is hungry. If I try to give her food any other time she won't eat it. I always offer her some when I make something

DD usually has a small snack within about 30 minutes of waking up but wants a big breakfast an hour or so after that. She's 19 months so who knows what will happen as she gets older. Once I was middle-school-age, I couldn't eat first thing in the morning -- it makes me nauseous. I need a good 1.5-2 hours before I can eat anything substantial. Now, I eat at work but when I was in school it usually meant skipping breakfast or eating a granola bar between classes.

@sarac: At my son's preschool, snack is set up and the kids can go and fix themselves something whenever they are hungry. It works nicely this way, as opposed to having a set time.

Yeah, and it's a problem because she really cannot go until lunch, but she needs time. I'm not really sure how she'll cope when she's not in preschool and can't snack whenever she wants in the morning.

I'm so curious to see what happens with DS once he's a little older. I am ravenous when I wake up, but DH often doesn't eat until lunch. Glad to see there is a nice variety on this!

Depends on the day. Some days he wakes up and immediately wants milk and breakfast, other days its a struggle. It appears to have nothing to do with how much/well he ate the day before either or how late. It seems to be random for us, but he's only 2.5.

Depends on the day for DS.
I don't like food at all in the morning. I'm a morning person, I get up early wide awake and ready to go, but the idea of eating is such a turn off. I crave coffee though and always have a tall glass of water with lemon.

My daughter is this way and so am I. The hardest time for me was high school since we had to be there so early and lunch was not until 1:30. We did get a breakfast break after first hour (about 9:45, I think) but it was only 10 minutes between classes!! I would try to forced down a waffle in the morning before school and would bring a muffin or something in my backpack. Now I just bring a Carnation instant breakfast or smoothie in to work with me. Then I'll have a snack about 10:30 and lunch at 12 or 1.

LO gets breakfast at daycare. They eat about 8 so she will have been up about 90 minutes by then. She does still eat a huge lunch though!

I'm not hungry right away either and never have been. My only worry would be if she's getting hungry before lunch time and is distracted at school because of it. If my daughter doesn't want to eat we can usually get at least a yogurt smoothie in her to tide her over.

Yes, my son does. If he wakes at 5:45, he won't eat breakfast until around 8.

As a child, I wasn't into breakfast, but now I can't get to lunch without it.

This was me as a child and now. I prefer to eat hours after I get up. Usually I will shovel down a kind bar during my AM pump because I know I need to. Before I was pregnant I rarely ate before 10am- that goes back as far as I remember. My parents said the only thing I could stomach was raw oats in cold milk- I still like it.

yes - then again it takes me time as well!

Not the healthiest option but DS will gladly drink a Carnation Instant Breakfast so he gets that pretty much every day as breakfast and DD either doesn't eat or has a few bites of cereal.

I have been packing larger lunches because of this and they eat it all!

My kids vary on how long it takes them to get hungry after they wake up. My son gets decently hungry when he wakes up, but his sister doesn't really like to eat breakfast at all.

We've tried so many things, but she's just not into eating for a few hours after she wakes up. Then she gets hungry and will eat a biggish lunch. Can't decide if a light/non-existent breakfast is a problem, or if it's just her natural inclination and we should just go with it.

Do your kids take time to get hungry in the morning?
