I could tell. The way she had her feet up under my ribs for the last like... 12 weeks, I could tell she was already out of room. Plus, she measured at least a week ahead at every ultrasound. My guess and my midwife's guess was between 9 and 10lbs.... she was 10lbs 8oz.

The ultrasounds always measured him as very big and consistently a week ahead of my EDD. I just always figured he would be bigger and early.

He was a week early, but only weighed 6 pounds 11 oz. Much better than the 9+ pound baby they had been predicting (scary since I'm 5'0")! It turned out he was just very tall, and it threw off their measurements.

@TurtleDoves: Oh, oops, I meant in my belly they said he was small (and they couldn't believe my due date was so soon). Once he was born people keep telling me how huge he is (or how much older they think he is).

i kept getting warned that i was going ot have a big baby due to frequent ultrasounds (high risk= tons of ultrasounds) plus my belly was HUGE. estimated size was around 9 pounds he came out at 8 pounds, 6 ounces. i could tell he was big bc my belly ws so freaking huge, it was unreal, i got asked all the time if i was having twins. im tiny to begin with so my baby made me look huge lol.

@pastemoo: whoa! you can see their outline when your water breaks? I guess that makes total sense, but it's never something I considered!

I don't think it's easy to tell from movement - like PP said, I was convinced LO was still breech at 30 weeks because all the movement was near my cervix. well turns out she was head down, just had really busy hands and had her feet by her face anyway! my LO is measuring 3 weeks small, and I can feel her in my ribs and cervix at the same time, as well as side to side. it's so weird.

my sono last week at 36 weeks, my ob said he was around 6.5 lbs. But, he is measuring around 37-38 for some measurements like abdominal circumference and head circumference (woo hoo). If he gains 1/2 lb per week from now until 40 weeks (if i last that long i'll be shocked), he would be around 8-8.5 lbs.

Interesting question! I have no idea how to judge baby's size...I'm just assuming they'll be big. My mom and grandmother never had a baby smaller than 8.5 lbs (I was the prize winner at 10lbs/24 inches, phew).

My fundal height is spot on for six months, but I haven't felt the baby change position for weeks, which would suggest that they're filling up the space in there pretty efficiently. And it seems like the kicks are kind of strong? Baby is probably another one of those big 'n talls, haha.

my doctor never estimated. I would always ask and she would just say, "average - between 6 and 8lbs"
we're both on the smaller side and I knew DS was going to be big. he was 8lbs 2.9oz and 21.5"

I knew he was 21 inches because I measured from the butt bump to the stretched out feet bump was 10inches...
But when my water broke and I saw his outline, I thought he would be about 6 pounds, and he was 8lbs 2oz.

Nope. I just asked my OB and he was pretty spot on with both of my boys - average which means 7 lbs or so. They were 7lbs 4 oz and 7 lbs 14 oz. I was worried for #2 since I only gained 20 lbs but he ended up being slightly heavier than his big brother.

With my first LO I measured huge, and the OBGYN was a little concerned. I felt huge, and was told I looked huge all the time. And, she was 9lbs6oz. With my second, I also measured big, no surprise (the baby is a boy and my second). This OBGYN was nuts-o and kept an eye on his size (she kept pushing Gestational Diabetes, yet I never got it). He was three weeks early and 7lbs 13 oz, but that makes me wonder if my due date was off too....

Nope. I was all belly and never got very big, every appointment they would say "Oh she's not a big baby" when they would press down on my belly to make sure she was head down. At 39 weeks I was told she was right around 6 pounds.

When she was born, surprise! She was almost 9 pounds!

I knew I was having a small baby because I had fetal surveys at weeks 30 and 32 due to some complications. However, he was SUPER active in the womb - like crazy active and strong. He was 5 lbs 5 oz and true to his womb activities...he's a very active little 3 month old baby now!

No I had no clue. She was a big girl, 8 lbs 13 oz, in the 90-95 percentile in both height and weight, and I measured big later on in my pregnancy. But I didn't really know what was going on when she was in my belly. I knew I was uncomfortable.... but that's about it.

I couldnt tell. I dont think you can estimate size just based on kicks. Babies are really flexible in the womb and can kick you all over. My baby would kick me in my ribs and then also in my bladder at about the same time and I'm 5ft 11 with a long torso. Even with all the ultrasounds and everything, my doctors were still off with the expected weight of my baby. They estimated she would about 7lbs 8 oz and she was born 6lbs 9oz.

I can't tell, my doc thinks shes on the smaller side (she was measuring right on at her 19 week U/S but we haven't had one since.) I was so worried about having a large baby since my sister's have yet to have one under 8 lbs 7 oz. but my doc think unless I go way over my due that that I won't be keeping up with the tradition...thank goodness!

personally i can;t tell. I know the doc told me he is on point to be average size and they have this 1 lb margin of error. Do you know your cycle pretty well? If you had longer than 28 day cycles and tend to ovulate later than day 14 then you would probably be due a bit later and vice versa if you had shorter than 28 day cycles and tend to ovulate on the earlier side. i have also heard that later ultrasounds are not so accurate but the one you got early in your pregnancy at 6-8 weeks should be pretty spot on in predicting gestation. What does your doc say when they feel around?

Baby Boy has always measured in the 90+ percentile according the the ultrasounds. I imagine he will be on the bigger side. Also, I am having discrepancies with my OB about my due date. I was tracking and I believe it's the 5th of Oct which would make me
32w3d But she says 12th which puts me at 31w3d.
Anyways, when he kicks I can feel him all over. I mean his feet are on one side and his arms are all the way on the other. I think he's a big boy! Could you feel this too or am I imagining it? He just seems....tall.
