We have a bench at our kitchen island and that is where DD and I sit for meals. She's been sitting on it since around 2 ish I believe. No issues.

@misolee: the irony is she always wanted to sit in a regular counter stool at the island in our condo, until the baby started sitting in a high chair... then suddenly she needed to be in a special seat too, just as she was actually ready to sit in a regular chair. Because toddlers.

My LO was in a regular chair but it was high (we had like a really high dining room table before we had kids) and she sat in it since two. Never fell or fidgeted. But that's her personality. My friends would bring their kids over for play dates and the kids would always fall off or over. We recently switched to bench when she was about 3.5 and it's fine. She's 4 now.

We got a bench just before LO turned 2, and its worked out really well! I put one of these on the bench so give her a little boost. https://www.amazon.com/Prince-Lionheart-Soft-Booster-Charcoal/dp/B005ZBHXOA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1480463848&sr=8-1&keywords=prince%2Blion%2Bbooster&th=1

@erinbaderin: I actually want her to be able to get down now. Otherwise she pushes the table away from her chair to get down and it's infuriating. So that's good.

We have a booster seat strapped onto our bench. It has worked really well for us. We started using it there when LO1 was about 3 but even LO2 (almost 2 years old) uses it just fine on occasion.

My son has been sitting on the bench since a little after 2. It's fine - I don't see it as being any different from a regular chair. He usually kneels, but now that he's a bit taller he can sit on his bum. It's a bit of a hassle because he can get down easily, and sometimes he slides over and crowds me out or sits in my lap, but it's fine.

Enough with the kitchen table questions! :)

If you have bench seating at your kitchen table, when could your kids sit on the bench without fidgeting or sliding around? We had been planning to do four chairs and a bench- so two chairs along the side further from wall, one on each end, and the bench on the side closer to the wall. But I'm wondering if my almost 3.5 year old will be able to sit on the bench anytime soon. She sits in a booster type seat now- she insists on it since the baby is in a high chair.

So do you like or dislike the bench seating?
