We got a really nice round pedestal table from goodwill for $30 when we staged our house. The base needs to be painted, but it's nice and sturdy and easier to sit at than our drop leaf (there's always a leg in the way)

We need a new table and chairs, I think we're going to go with a smallish round table likely made of white laminate up top and with wooden legs. Then for seating, we need 2 chairs (the other 2 sides of the table have built in banquette seating) and I will likely go with those wider stools with the long rectangle seat, rather than those traditional round ones just so the chairs aren't in the way.

We just bought a basque table and bench from crate and barrel. Wood is a bit too dark for me but otherwise we like it!

@OhCaptain: yeah that just sounds like a fight I don't want to have. I'm thinking chairs for now. I have enough battles to fight! I have a baby and an almost 3 year old so it will be a while before they both get it (though obviously the baby will be in a high chair of some sort for a while).

@Foodnerd81: I think it just depends on your child, and the expectations you set for their behavior. I nanny for a family with a bench, and the kids are terrible on it. They stand up, they climb on each other, and over each other and fall off the darn thing. (Note they are 4 and 5. It's better now but was bad when they were 2 and 3). When im there the have to sit in their knees or bum, but their parents don't have that rule at other times, like when they are playing Legos or a game etc.

@OhCaptain: @Mrs. Pickle: I thought little kids would be too wiggly to sit on it long term. Like fine for a picnic but for dinner every night they would drive me mad. Maybe I'm wrong!

@Foodnerd81: I sit on the bench for every meal and it's not uncomfortable at all. I love that we can seat lots of kids on it when we need to.

@Foodnerd81: the bench is amazing for kids! We also have a bench (my husband made ours and drilled holes in it so we could secure our booster seat). It's easy to clean and you can squeeze lots of kids on it when you have friends over.

@Mrs. Pickle: really pretty! How do you find having a bench vs chairs. I'm torn on this- I really like the way it looks, and I like that you can squeeze an extra person on there as needed, but I feel like a bench would be uncomfortable for leisurely dinners.

@ladybee: I like that style of chairs a lot.

@T.H.O.U.: I showed some pictures of Ana White tables to DH and he's totally on board and wants to build us a table. Please note we have never built anything besides IKEA furniture. But the internet says it's easy!

I'd love to build a table, but for now we have a table that belonged to my husband's granny. It's not my style but he loves it. I'd suggest going to a secondhand store or the Habitat Restorefor something durable and cheap.

We bought a house! And, we actually have a proper kitchen where we can have a table and chairs! (Up until now we have eaten at the island breakfast bar counter).

I'm trying to figure out what stye of kitchen table I even want. Care to share pictures of your kitchen table set up? Or your dream table even if it's not what you have now?

We will probably go cheap for now since, hello, just bought a house, but also with two little ones, they are going to be rough on it for a while. So cheap now, and something we really like down the line when we have saved up a bit more and the kids are less destructive. But a girl can dream. Or, DIY, since we have space to do projects!
