@Mrs. Bee: I have smart wool socks for myself and they're awesome. They are my go-to socks for wearing with my rain boots because they STAY.PUT. Make the investment. You won't regret it.

@sandy: thanks for the idea!

i ended up finding some emu creature boots on sale. they were awesome the last time we had them because we didn't even have to worry about socks so one less thing, and they're super comfy and warm.

@locavore_mama: they had tons and tons of great reviews on every site they're sold on... not itchy and stays put. they're pricey though so for the cost of a couple of pairs, maybe i'd be better off buying the emu creature boots.

@Mrs. Bee: wool might be very itchy unless they're lined?

I would worry about them falling down and bunching?

@Andrea: @sandy: i do want to get him a pair of boots, but i've been debating between snow boots which can be heavy, and ugg type shoes (we had the emu creature boots before and they were great. they are both pricey so i only want to get one or the other. should have bought the emus when they were on gilt a couple weeks ago!

a second vote for Gap or Old Navy triple roll socks. they're quite long, and if you only roll them once it should cover the gap. i use them for DS for just the same reason!

aaaw...the teasing makes me so sad. The gap rollup socks can run up pretty high on my son's legs. Other than that, I can only think of performance/sports socks but they might be on the thicker side.

@Mrs. Bee: I was just looking at knee high socks for my LO too...I just looked on amazon and saw some good ones. Do little boys wear uggs? My LO just got a pair for her birthday and I think they'll be good at keeping her feet/ankles warm in the colder weather

@Mrs. Bee: I can't believe these little kids are being mean to him. I feel so bad! Sounds like you have some good ideas here already. Do little boys wear boots? DD wears boots on some days so that would help with the exposed ankles. But I don't have a boy so I don't know what they wear!

@T-Mom: @Mrs. Train: i anticipated him being teased because he is already small but he's also the youngest with a dec birthday. it makes me sad too but he has a pretty big personality so i hope he will be ok!

and great point about using the bathroom! he doesn't even like buttoning pants so i always send him to school in pants with elastic waists!

@Mrs. Bee: oh your last comment just broke my heart. The teasing at such a young age is crazy. Our preschool class is having a lot of issues and it hurts my heart!

I would think socks might be easier than the second layers (for bathroom trips and such) Socks he could always push down if he wants.

@T-Mom: you're right they are thin! we have some adult ones.

but for some reason i thought he would be made fun of if he wore them under his pants like leggings which is why i came up with the socks idea... the kids already tease him and call him "baby" because he is small. :(

Silk thermal underwear is very lightweight but not bulky, and it breathes?
Or lined jeans? Babylegs also sounds like a great idea. I've never bought knee high socks before for kids, but I am sure those would work as well!

Charlie has been complaining that it's cold on our walks to/from school, and I think it's because his legs aren't warm enough when his pant legs ride up and expose his ankles.

At first I thought about putting him in thermal underwear, but it's really warm inside the classroom so I think he will be uncomfortable in them all day.

So I'm thinking knee high socks would be a nice extra layer of warmth. Anyone purchased knee high socks for their kids?

How do you keep their legs warm on cold days?
