Thanks ladies!!!

Um I'm an ass and just shook it up...so now its trying to explode on me...but once it settles I am trying it!

@tofuwad: I regularly enjoy a beer at home so I'm not worried about the alcohol!

I drank it once week for a good 2 or 3 months after having DD2 and it wasn't a problem. I only stopped because it's expensive

I'm really hesitant when people tell me things "flush out the toxins". I personally think if we were all walking around full of toxins we'd be dead.

I've had people who practice homeopathy tell me the same thing about drinking green tea and eating fennel while nursing (again the idea that it "flushes out the toxins"). Unless I see a medical study about it I'm not going to worry. I've always thought that flushing out toxins is BS.

http://www.infantrisk.com/forum/forum/medications-and-breastfeeding-mothers/herbal-medications/1509-kombucha

A lot of the blogs I found on Dr Google cite this guys^^ website and on the forums I found that info. The studies they cite appear to be regarding improper home-brew. To me that says more about contamination from bad bacteria rather than anything in kombucha itself.

http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00039742.htm

This is about the deaths of two people. It says that they used SCOBY from the same parent scoby and out of 100 other people who had scoby from the same mother, only these two got sick and that "No known human pathogens or toxin-producing organisms were identified" when they tested the kombucha they had been drinking. One woman was taking meds for kidney problems.

Obviously if you're worried abstaining isn't difficult! I was more concerned about the small amount of alcohol. But I'm not worried.

Sorry about the wall of text but I was really curious because I've been drinking home brew for months!

@MrsKRB: I saw that too...I bought my first bottle this weekend and when I did a quick google I saw the warning...so I was basically planning to drink a lot of water around the same time I drink the kombucha...

@atoz: I assumed the same as far as the warning goes...

I asked my midwife the same question and she told me that it was fine. She thought the warnings it came on kombucha bottles weremore likely butt covering than anything else. If in doubt though, ask your care provider… Never a silly question.

I've been drinking it here and there, I've never really given it a second thought.

ETA: I just did some quick research, and it looks like toxins can be released in breastmilk if you're not well hydrated. I guess if you drink a lot of water, and just drink kombucha every once in awhile there shouldn't be any problems.

I'm reading mixed reviews...what do you ladies think about drinking Kombucha while nursing?

The concern is it may cause you to release toxins into your breastmilk...
