@HabesBabe: Hmm now that you mention side dishes and clean up....

It's tricky choosing a place though bc for one, I don't know where she lives or how comfortable she is going to an actual Korean restaurant. Some of the ones here are sadly straight up rude to non-Koreans and I definitely don't want to put her in an awkward situation..

@mrsjyw: thanks! @snowjewelz: oh good thinking, I do have an extra insulated bag at home.

@locavore_mama: Yeah-- I was thinking that, too.. But a decent meal at a nice kbbq place would probably be over-budget for me and I'm not sure I want to put her in the position to pay out of pocket to cover the rest of the meal.. especially bc kbbq is more of a group dining thing.. Plus most of the ones around here are the ones where you cook the meat yourself on the table grill so I'm guessing that would be the same thing? But def a legit concern.. I will write a quick note on how to cook it thoroughly, esp if I get pork, too. Thanks!!

@locavore_mama: I second your recommendation! A gift card would be easier for her, no cooking, no mess, no clean-up. Plus, the meat itself would be AWESOME, but I'd want to have all of the side dishes, too... hahaha.

My only concern is if she would know how to cook it? It's fairly simple but some people are really clueless in the kitchen especially when it comes to foreign cuisine. What about a gc to the local Korean bbq place?

Maybe give it to her in a insulated lunch bag or at least with some icepacks? Maybe include a recipe card so she can make it herself in the future? This is a great gift idea! It's not often you know exactly what they want!

Hi everyone,

This is sort of random but I found out today is my LO's main teacher's birthday (infant class).

She had mentioned before that she loves Korean BBQ and I have an hour long break to go pick some up. It would be raw/marinated meat. Is that weird to gift, lol? I wasn't planning to do any bday gift since Valentine's day is around the corner, but her teacher did go out of her way to give my LO a special present for her 1st birthday, so I'm thinking I should do something..

Normally I would give a Target or Starbucks card but to give you some background info-- her teacher is AA so I'm pretty sure she doesn't eat Korean food often or make her way to the Korean market on her own.

In terms of food transport, I'm not sure how long her commute home is but if anything, she could keep the food in the fridge and take it tomorrow if she doesn't plan to go home right away. Though, I'm pretty sure she will since she has a 2 year old of her own.

Anyway-- what do you guys think? Yay, nay? :P Just the standard kalbi?

Thanks!
