@T-Mom: I crumple up a piece of roasted/salted gim over this too!

My dad always made me microwave it for a minute so I wouldn't be eating raw egg. I've found that the minimum I could tolerate is 30-45 seconds; any less than that and I'd be too afraid of the bacteria.

does it cook the egg enough?? that's weird! Never heard that!

I nannyed for a family whose kids were half-Laos and their favorite breakfast was (cooked) egg with rice and soy sauce. Never thought of eating that together, for breakfast - but it was really good!

I'm not Korean. But I cook a runny egg (but not raw, I don't have the stomach for that) and eat it with rice, sesame oil and soy sauce. And sometimes a pat of butter if I'm feeling indulgent. And I eat it with gim (seaweed snack). I'm honorary Korean though (according to my Korean friends). :-) Sometimes I also feed it to my kids. ETA: for the kids I cook the egg more.

My philipino friend eats this! I don't do egg over rice because I'm really paranoid about raw egg white.

I didn't know this was a Korean thing. It's a very Japanese thing too.

I'm not Korean, but I love to do the egg thing over kimchi fried rice! I grew up with a ton of Koreans though (and my LT ex was Korean too).

I love to eat raw egg cracked in a steaming hot bowl of rice, with a splash of sesame oil & soy sauce. A non-Korean friend who recently saw me do this thought it was really weird. I grew up on this, so to me it's so normal!

Anyone else do this? Is it weird? :)
