We decided to pick a theme for our 1 year old's party. He loves books, so a storybook theme made sense for us. I bought the books from the dollar store (they had some decent books there and I picked books (some coloring books too) appropriate for the age of the children I was giving them to). Then I added some Asian treats (pocky sticks etc.) I figured the parents would eat the treats for the little ones who were too small or for the parents who didn't want to sugar up their kids. We picked twice and had two prizes (gift cards). We did it after the food but before the cake. I have some photos posted on my blog: http://www.photobookgirl.com/blog/photo-book-baby-turns-one-creative-uses-for-photos-to-customize-your-party-decor-part-1/ Oh, and if you like to get more inspiration, I saw lots of drool worthy dols here: http://www.korean1stbirthday.com
Take lots of photos! :)

We threw a biggish dohl for my son because of our huge familes so we had to have some sort of entertainment for the kids (there were 25 kids!). We had a balloon artist and a magic show. For kiddie gifts, we gave away skip hop lunch bags. http://www.skiphop.com/product/zoolunchies.html I found them on sale for cheap ($8 each) and I wanted to give the kids something that they would actually use and not just throw away. Let's see...For the dohljabbi gifts, we gave away $25 gift cards. We had our son pick two times. We did the dohljabbi after meal and before cake. Cake was the very last thing we did since most people (especially the korean elders) tend to leave after they eat dessert.

I baked super simple sugar cookies and decorated them with piped royal icing. I got clear plastic boxes from papermart and ribbon from a craft store, and shredded paper. They were truly a labor of love... I'll probably NEVER do anything like this again!!!

For my son's dol, we didn't hand out any party favors although I liked the idea of handing out ddok as a party favor. My friend handed out a bag filled with candies and bubbles for her son's party. I had four choices for doljabi and had one prize ($25 amazon gift card). We did the doljabi after the meal, but before the cake smash. We didn't have any entertainment, but because everyone at the party were non-Koreans, they were all fascinated by the dol table, doljabi, the tradition and the food.

Hm... for our favors we gave everyone that went to the party a rubber ducky (12 for 6 dollars on amazon)... they are half size ones so a lot smaller than normal and attached them to lollypops.

I don't have answers to your other questions but maybe bumping this would get other people to answer for you since we didn't have a korean bday ^_^

OMG, your party sounds amazing! Other than LO, we only had one other kid there and she was only 1 month old :) - it was adults only (because none of my friends/family have kids).

We did the doljabi after the meal, during dessert. No games, no prizes, nothing.

Hi everyone! Long time lurker here.. I joined Hellobee when I was pregnant and now am planning my baby's first birthday party! Whoooo~~ time flies!

I was wondering if someone could help me with some ideas for kids' favor bags. What age kids get favors? I think the kids' ages will range from 1-12. I'm big on reading but would it be strange to buy each kid a book as a favor? heheh. Any other ideas?

Also, for those of you that did a doljabi/raffle, what sort of prizes did you give out? How many winners? Is this after the meal and cake or between meal and cake?? I've seen a lot of blog parties with bubble shows, puppets, etc.. When does the entertainment take place-- during the meal?

I have a million questions :P.. would love any advice.

Thank you :)
