We used the Baby bjorn when they babies were itty bitty, and then transitioned to the ergo. Still use it all the time and the babies are 15mo old. Love the ergo.

Like others have said, I'd do a soft structured carrier. We actually have 3 (good grief, that's embarrassing)--an Ergo for DH, and a Beco Gemini and a Tula for me. All 3 are good for different things. Ergo is great for DH but is tough to get on and off alone, the Beco Gemini is an awesome option for my curious LO because she loves facing out, and the Tula is the most comfortable and provides the most coverage for her.
Happy registering/shopping! :)

We had an Ergo as well. Only I could wear the Ktan. So the Ergo was used by DH mostly.

We did k'tan & beco gemini. We used the k'tan early - through about 8-10 weeks. My husband starting using the beco around 6 weeks and is now the primary baby-wearer in the family using it. DS is nosy so he loves the facing-out option!

We did k'tan and ergo. I used the k'tan for a few months but my baby didn't really like it so it wasn't used often. We used the ergo more and DH likes that one even though I wasn't really a fan (I'm very short so it didn't fit me correctly). It was nice to have two options, especially since my baby was picky. You could wait until your baby arrives to see if you will need another. When we have #2, I will probably wait and then try on some other types (ring sling, beco, tula) with the baby instead of trying to guess ahead of time.

@MrsADS: I think that's a good idea, as long as you aren't missing out on someone giving it to you as a gift :) I got the beco Gemini in case my baby wanted to be face out all the time, but by the time we moved her to the beco from the moby, it was very clear that she is a snuggle baby who wants to face her mama. I like the beco for many reasons anyway, but the point is you will know your baby a lot better after she's a few months old.

K'tan for the first 8ish weeks, beco Gemini until 6 months & then Tula. Or Lenny lamb. Or lillebaby.

I have only heard good things about ring slings but they do have a (slight) learning curve that I was never patient enough to figure out.

Following this. Baby isn't here yet, but I registered for a K'Tan. I would also like a soft structured carrier. But I'm thinking, I wonder if it's better to wait til he gets here in case I have a baby who hates being worn?? I hate to spend a bunch of money on carriers we won't use.

We have a K'Tan, ergo 360, and a ring sling. I loved the K'Tan for the first few months and now alternate with the other two (DD is 7 months). DH likes the Ergo. Fwiw, I am only 5'"4 and the ergo is great for me

DD hated the K'Tan because she didn't like being on her tummy. I ended up getting a ring sling and she loved it because she had more space. It's so hard to try to predict what a baby will like!

I didn't like the Bjorn because it hurt to wear my daughter once she got to the six month mark. The Ergo is a great choice if you don't want spend oodles of money on a SSC. I think you should get a SSC for sure, I don't have any experience with ring slings but I intend to buy one for this baby!

I have a moby and a beco soleil. I'm petite so that's why I got beco. For my DH, I got him an Ergo. Babies aren't here yet so I have no idea if we'll like them.

My sister gave birth in Feb and her DH likes the ergo and she does not. I forget which one she has and likes.
I heard the Ergos are good for taller people.

I've heard great things about the Tula but I heard that it might not be good for the newborn stage. I will probably pick one up because I heard Tulas have great resale value.

Tula!!

I would recommend the Tula over an Ergo (I had both and prefer the Tula. My second LO would only be worn in the Tula). We use a stretchy wrap in the NB stage.

Oh- but that said- I want to add a ring sling for this new baby. I think it might be easier to pop the baby in there while minding a toddler, than wrapping the moby up every time.

I think a soft wrap style (like a ktan or moby) pus a soft structured carrier (like an ergo, beco, Tula...) is a good line up. Most moms don't use a stretchy wrap like that beyond the first few months (but they are SO worth it for those months!). And I have never used a bjorn but I know they can get uncomfortable for mom as baby gets heavier since the weight is all on your shoulders, not distributed on your hips.

I never got comfortable with the ktan and ended up returning ours, but along the same lines we did moby wrap for the first four months, then beco Gemini from then until 18-20ish months when she got too tall for it to be comfortable for me. Great call on baby wearing instead of stroller during the winter months!

I already have a Baby K'Tan original that I picked up on clearance a few years ago. I would like to register for a second carrier that will give us another option in case DH or I or LO is not a fan of the K'Tan, or just to suit different needs.

Baby will arrive in early winter, and I am thinking that I will primarily baby wear (minimal stroller use) at least until the weather warms up in April or so. Activities will include mostly errand-running and dog-walking.

What would you get as a complement to the K'Tan? Ring sling? Something more structured like an Ergo?

ETA: I *may* be getting a hand-me-down Baby Bjorn - not sure which model. With that and the K'Tan, could I justify a third carrier, or should I just see how we like those first?
