This year she will be at school and the principal advised us that everything will need to be labelled (especially clothing). She said forget the iron on labels - they can be peeled off and don't bother writing on the tags, they're easily cut off. So the solution is get the sharpie out, and write directly onto the fabric of clothing where it cannot be seen through the exterior - the inside of the collar, the placket of polo shirts, the interior pocket of pants/shorts/summer dress. It would have been a waste to get labels since they wanted everything color coded. They go on and hold tight to clothing tags, shoes, bottles and even pacifiers and only peel off if you want them to. And I have some Avery brand clothing labels that you write on with sharpie and just stick on the clothes. For non-fabric items do you use a pre-printed label, masking tape and a sharpie, something else? </p>
