I’ve worn contacts since they’re ultimately more comfortable for me, but definitely brought glasses for my post partum stay. One thing I’ve noticed though taking care of a newborn with glasses on is if the fit has gotten loose, they will slide right off with all the looking down you do (getting his latch right while nursing, changing a diaper/swaddling, etc)... they’ve also slid right off my face more than once while wiping my toddler’s bum.... soooo maybe double check that fit first

@lindseykaye: my eyes are like yours, I had a lot of issues with my contacts until I switched to dailies! There is no way I could tolerate 30 day contacts! Although my glasses also sometimes give me a headache if I wear them exclusively for too many days in a row.

@thepaperbutterfly: This is so interesting because I wear the exact opposite contacts as you - dailies! Though, like I said before, I wear my glasses almost exclusively unless I'm exercising or doing something outdoors/swimming or if I want to wear sunglasses. Part of that is due to my job in a laboratory where contacts are specifically not allowed, and part of it is due to comfort. I have very dry eyes so even daily contacts can bother me if worn for a full day.
I am also one of the lucky people to have had an infection due to contacts when I was younger and wore them every day - it was crazy painful. Like, more than unmedicated childbirth painful, so I'm extra super cautious.
My MIL is just like you though! And she wears her 30-day contacts that can be worn at night too and LOVES them.

I have contacts that are meant to be worn for 30 days straight, so I kept my contacts in for my last C-section XD Granted, taking my glasses along is a good suggestion. Although with my last delivery, I went in with a systolic blood pressure reading that was a little high. I thought they were going to just dismiss me and tell me everything was okay, so I wasn't prepared for anything. A few hours after entering the hospital I was having an emergency C-section due to severe pre-eclampsia. I'm not sure why more people don't wear 30 day contacts? I've been wearing contacts for the past 20 years, and 30 day ones for like the last 10 years. They are amazing. Never had an eye infection either, but I guess they increase the risk of it, maybe???. I highly recommend them :)

my 1st and 3rd daughters were during the day when i was already wearing contacts. my labors weren't long enough to worry about taking them out. my 2nd i was in labor after i had gotten ready for bed, when i wear my glasses.... so i can't remember what i did!

I wear contacts 99% of the time but I made sure to get a new pair of glasses recently so I have something to wear in the hospital. The last thing I want is to be worrying about a contact getting stuck or hurting while I"m in labor. I'll decide when I go into labor what I want to do, I think.

For my c section they said either contacts or blind, no glasses (so weird how every hospital is different). I’d go contacts so you can see! And if they have to be in for longer than normal it’s fine, just bring a fresh pair and glasses in your bag.

@DesertDreams88: that too. Haha. I cried so much. I try to avoid glasses at all costs and stick to contacts, but it still made sense to have glasses for labour.

I wore glasses though I usually don't in normal life. I cried a lot during labor and afterward and I feel like it's unhealthy to cry a bunch in contacts and rub your eyes, etc.

Also labor both times meant I was mostly awake for 36 hours (LO1 took forever, and LO2 labor started at 7pm at night but didn't get going really until 1am.) Since contacts are only supposed to be worn for 12 hours at a time, that didn't feel good for my eyes either.

I wore contacts with my first because while I wear my glasses 99% of the time, I absolutely HATE wearing them during exercise or anything where I might be sweating or physically uncomfortable.
Planning for another unmedicated birth this time around (as you are too, right?) so I'll be putting my contacts in sometime during early labor. I plan to do what someone above said and bring both an additional pair and my glasses in case I need to switch them out or they become uncomfortable. I will probably take them out after the birth to wear my glasses since that feels more like 'me' for pictures and I am more comfortable in them in general.

I hate glasses because I'm so blind. I wear contacts continuously days after days, so I had no issue with wearing contacts to the hospital for delivering my girls. Even though the paperwork said to take the contacts out, I kept them in. Just bring eye drops and have your guy keep them in his pocket and be ready to hand you drops if and when you need them. Bring an extra pair of contacts and bring your glasses. You are all covered! Good luck!!!

I wore my glasses but I took them off by the end. I wish I had at least brought my contacts because most of our newborn pics are with my glasses on and I don’t love them. Ive thought about this alot for baby #2 and I think wearing contacts during labor would be uncomfortable at least for me because I plan on being in the shower or tub. Also the last thing I want is it getting stuck in my eye or something while I’m trying to focus and be calm. Good luck ❤️

I loathe glasses and am nearly blind without them, but I had to take out my contacts after 16 hours of labour before my c-section so I opted to wear glasses the next time, just in case I ended up with another one. I figured I might want to after labour as well and it would just be easier without contacts in. I was closing my eyes a lot during and between contractions so that would have made my contacts go funky and dry after a while.

I am pretty much blind without contacts and never needed to take them off with either kids. I def brought glasses as a just in case, and also eye drops. I hate wearing my glasses so I'd try anything to not have to put them on!

The paperwork they gave me before my csection said no contacts, but I had them in when we went in not thinking, and they never asked me about them. It's nice just being able to see without your glasses falling down your face (which I imagine would be commonplace while in labor).

I'd wear your contacts and just make sure to take an extra pair and bring your glasses. That way if necessary you can take them out without worrying about having to put them away properly if you're in a rush.
I'd also double check with your ob as the hospital might have a policy about such things

Trying to decide what to do when the time comes... With DD, I think I wore my glasses to the hospital since I didn't know what to expect. BUT I'm nearly blind without them and it was annoying having to ask DH to get them, take them off, etc. I want to wear my contacts this time but worry I'll need to take them out at some point and not be able to. Clearly I'm overthinking this ;)
