@Smurfette: that's awesome! Go R!!

LO stayed dry all day at daycare but had 2 back to back accidents at home. DH took him potty before they went outside and said he peed a lot but he had an accident outside and then came in, tried to pee on the potty (with DH) and then I put new shorts on him and they went back outside and he peed his shorts again just a few minutes later.

I don't know what happened. I don't know if DH isn't encouraging LO to totally empty (I always wait until LO tells me he's done and if he tries to say he's done super quick, I tell him I need to hear more pee) or if it's from playing outside with the water. In the first couple days when LO was on the potty, I'd run the bath water to get LO to pee, so I think it might've been from hearing the water running. Or he's just regressing. I don't know. He wasn't even showing signs of needing to pee when he just peed :(

@Smurfette: are you guys using a nap diaper at daycare? Day 1 we didn't and he woke dry but today he peed a ton at nap. I have a feeling they're going to ask about a nap diaper tomorrow. I think I'll take in slip ons so he can take them on and off. That's what we use at home and he took it off last night to pee one last time before bed.

@Smurfette: so far so good at school!! We had an accident on the way in though. We were stuck in gnarly traffic (it was going on an hour since we'd left home and our commute is usually 20 minutes) and he told me he had to poop, I asked him to hold it but we literally couldn't move. He tried to hold it but couldn't but did hold his pee until we stopped at McDonald's and he peed successfully for the first time in a public potty. He had boxer briefs on since daycare flipped out about commando, so it was an easy, quick cleanup. Totally my fault :(

Since he's doing well with the boxer briefs, I think I'll break out the Elmo undies this weekend! They should arrive Friday!

@Smurfette: we had one pee accident at home, it was my fault. DH and I were in the next room, talking, and I heard LO screaming that he had to go potty, so I went out and helped him to the potty but we were a couple seconds too late. He'd just gone to the potty maybe 15 minutes before so I wasn't rushing in to get him and I probably should've been.

Poor guy was so sad, we'd been telling him we'd take away Elmo if he got his shorts wet and so when we didn't make it, he started sobbing "no, Elmo, mommy, Elmo" and had a full on accident. I felt so horrible. We're not going to mention taking away Elmo anymore, I think we are over the hump with needing a consequence.

We're still using the night diaper and this evening, we put him in the night diaper and he told us he needed to go and actually took off his diaper to go. I was impressed! It gives me hope that undies won't wreak havoc...

@Smurfette: I just talked to daycare. No accidents so far, no poop yet and that's their worry too. They don't want poop to get everywhere. I told the we only had the boxer briefs so I'll take those in tomorrow but they're not any tighter than his shorts. I'm going to pull out some pants with elastic around the ankles foo and see if they'd be okay with those, but it's going to be 90s tomorrow so idk how I really feel about him being in long, thick pants.

I have other issues I need to talk to her about. But I need to stress to her to stress to the teacher, the pull ups are for nap only. If they use them otherwise I am going to take them all away. I know exactly how many they have.

I haven't heard anything yet, I really want to call and check on him (he's a morning pooper and that's what I'm sure they're nervous about) but I'm afraid they'll tell me then that he needs underwear.

I told the teacher NOT to put him in a diaper at all today and to call if there were issues. I even brought an extra blanket for her to lay under him if she was nervous about naptime and no diaper, so we shall see.

I cleared the commando thing with his teacher BEFORE we started potty training and she was totally like yeah, we will do whatever you want, we try to follow whatever the parents are doing at home. Today he shows up commando and she's like "I don't think we can do that, I need to talk to the director! Does he have any underwear at all?!" And I was like "well we are using boxer briefs as shorts at home, but they're very loose so if he HAS to have underwear, that's what I'm bringing in, but they're just as loose as those shorts and that extra layer might trip him up..."

So infuriating. I asked and I told her the thought process behind it and NOW that it's his first day at daycare and he has no underwear she decides she ought to ask?! Ugh! I ordered 4t Elmo briefs on Amazon prime so if they really fight me, hopefully the combination of a size too big and Elmo will be enough for LO to be successful. The authors point is muscle memory, underwear is snug like a diaper and that muscle memory has been in place since birth, something snug goes on, pee and poop get released.

So this afternoon when we came in, he drank a full sippy of water and was obviously needing to go. I told him we were going to go and that was an epic fail. I tried to warn him (we had Sesame Street on, so I said "after Abby, we are going to potty") and he still wouldn't go.

We went back to Elmo and I reminded him that we were keeping his shorts dry and if he got them wet, Elmo was going bye-bye. I asked him if he needed to go pee and he said no. He told me a few minutes later that he needed to pee and we went to the potty. He peed and pooped!

It's been almost an hour since and he's pulling the same antics, it's clear he needs to pee and so I asked him if he needed to go and and he said no. I reminded him we were keeping his shorts dry and if they got wet, Elmo was going bye-bye. We'll see if it works again...

@Applesandbananas: I've been trying to make it into a game and fun, so like I'll say "oh I really need to pee. What should I do??" And then M will say "go on the potty mommy!" So we race to the potty and she watches me go, and we cheer, and then she will give it a try after that. I've found this approach to work without her feeling like I am "forcing" her or bugging her to go. And I have DH do the same.

I posted a separate thread before I saw this one but was anyone else's child super resistant from the start? If we try to put him on the potty (after he start peeing) he becomes hysterical and fights it tooth and nail. He even got hurt last pee. We have to physically force him onto the potty and hold him there which is both physically exhausting and traumatizing for everyone. I'm at such a loss as to what to do. :sad:
